Poker minnows Poland have pulled off a shock result by fending off both the U.S and Canada to bring home the World Cup of Poker.
The winning team, comprising of Philip Hilm (left), Jacek Ladny, Marcin Meinardi, Andrzej Skawinski, and Marcin Doliwa, finally scooped the gold when online qualifier Ladny beat America's captain and odds on favourite Joe Harwell.
The forty year old from Poland made a great call with A-6 suited to catch the American with a rather lowly 6-3 off. No painful outdraw arrived leaving the Polish stockbroker from Warsaw to bask in his glory as a Poker World Cup winner.
For their efforts, each member received $20,000, plus an additional 20k for the team as a whole, leaving the U.S to take $50,000 for 2nd and Canada to accept $30,000 for 3rd.
Well done to Poland. Good to see the trophy being kept this side of the Atlantic.
