Current heads-up champion Phil Hellmuth is looking to retain his National Heads Up Poker Championship title as he braces himself for another few days of hardcore one-on-one action.
As with last year, the field with be tougher than a pair of old boots. Brunson, Harman, Chan, Greenstein, and Hansen are all among the confirmed names, not to mention last year's runner-up, Chris ‘Jesus' Ferguson. There is even a wild card slot, which is yet to be filled. Rumour has it that tikay may well get the call, although I may have to revisit that grapevine to double-check.
With heads-up considered by many to be the purest form of poker, Hellmuth is not taking his defence lightly. A 1.5 million dollar prize pool would be enough to make anyone drool, but the 1989 WSOP champion is more focused on being top dog, especially with all the top names in full attendance.
Watch this space for more updates on how the competition progresses when Hellmuth commences his defence on March 4 th . Also, don't hold your breath on the tikay wild-card appearance, that honour, I'm afraid, is destined for your reporter. (cough)
