After a grueling 9 hours of final table action, Danish player Mads Andersen finally took the title of Scandinavian Open Champion and a tidy cheque to the sum of 2,548,070 Kroner (£234k).
Sporting his lucky Mickey Mouse jumper, the 35-year-old Dane battled through a jam-packed field which included the likes of Gus Hansen, Julian Thew, Marcel Luske, and current WSOP champion Joe Hachem.
With two gladiators remaining, Andersen's only hurdle lay in the form of top Norwegian player, Edgar Skjervold. The two traded blows for over an hour before Andersen's A-Q held up against Skjervold's A-T. With Edgar flopping a flush draw, it wasn't cut and dry for Mads, but a black queen followed by the ten of spades on the river meant that Andersen was the champ.
A special note must also go to Anina Gundesen, who took away 398,000 Kroner (£36.5k) for her 6 th place finish. Not only did she pip Xuyem 'Bad Girl' Pham as the last remaining female, but she also qualified through a $13 rebuy satellite on PokerStars. The only downfall is that I was forced to eat my hat for saying that she wouldn't make the final. That's the last time I underestimate women in poker!
Held at the Copenhagen Casino, the tournament was a roaring success with many players complimenting the excellent blind, ante, and clock structure. With temperatures dropping to -7 degrees Celsius, all competitors were mighty relieved that the game of poker was an indoor activity. All I can say is that thank God this wasn't the Russian Open where inhabitants were forced to endure weather conditions of -30 degrees.
Next stop for the EPT is Deauville in France, where Blondepoker's very own Jen Mason shall be participating.
Keep you eyes peeled for a full report of the Scandinavian Open which shall soon be appearing in our 'Tournament Reports' section.
