The last weekend of September, as it gently becomes October, in fact, sees a bunch of tempting tournaments over in Ireland all nestled around the Dublin area. Stephen Mc Lean, who's recently co-formed the company Poker Ireland, tells you about it first hand:

The end of September offers a feast of live tournament action in Ireland;

With so much on offer these days it’s often hard to choose where to play. But the last weekend of this month is exceptional. Three quality events will take place on consecutive days in Ireland. I’m planning on playing in two of these events; I’ll be running the other.

On Friday September 29th Poker Ireland are offering a one day €500 + €35 reg. no-limit hold’em tournament in the Fairways Hotel & Conference Centre in the ideally located town of Dundalk. (I say ideally located because it is a stone’s throw from both Dublin and Belfast). Proceedings will commence at 8pm on the Friday.

The tournament itself should attract players from all over. Poker Ireland is new on the scene and this is the first in a series of €500 buy-in events which will form the basis for a new Irish tournament circuit. Each competition will be all cash payouts but the series will culminate in the Poker Ireland Festival in October of next year.

Julie O’Leary of Poker Ireland believes it is now time “for players to be offered value for money, a playable structure and the guarantee of a well run tournament, whilst bringing poker tournament organisers together creating unity and uniformity within the sport”.

There is an estimated prize fund of €20,000 with this event. If you are interested in playing or you would like more information contact poker_ireland@eircom.net.

On Saturday September 30th the Fitzwilliam club in Dublin city are hosting their Irish Eyes €500 + €50reg. no-limit hold’em tournament and this is sure to be an exciting night. With players qualifying online and the fact that the Fitzwilliam Club is Dublin’s busiest card club this event has an estimated prize-pool of €35,000. For more information contact info@fitzwilliamcardclub.com.

On Sunday October 1st Mike Lacey and his company (Green Joker Poker) offer a quality €250 no-limit hold’em tournament in the Boyne Valley Hotel, Drogheda, which is a twenty minute drive from Dublin city centre. This tournament usually amounts to a €20,000 prize-pool and has a very playable structure. It is part cash and part qualifier to Green Joker’s huge €1,000 tournament which takes place in November. For more information on this tournament contact mike@antesup.com.

If you would like to have arrangements made for all three tournaments contact Julie at poker_ireland@eircom.net.

Look forward to seeing you there, Stephen Mc Lean.
