Last week, blondeite John 'Skalie' Kalmar gained some extra ranking points by winning the £300 freezeout at Napoleons' Casino in Sheffield. The festival, reasonably well attended throughout, was predominantly made up of two freezeouts and one rebuy. The first was the £100 rebuy, a popular comp that drew in 106 players and a prizepool of £30,100 - very nice indeed. And the lion's share of that ended up in the hands of M Lowe, S Fenton, T Lee, P Gourlay and eventual winner George Wainberg who all agreed a deal of £4,000 each with £3,900 left in the kitty to play for. And although it was George who garnered top billing, it was only after the final 3 were forced into a chip count.
The official results are as follows:
1st Goerge Wainberg -- £5,575
2nd Paul Gourlay -- £5,425
3rd T Lee -- £4,900
4th Scott Fenton -- £4,000
5th Mark Lowe -- £4,000
6th Terry Halliday -- £1,800
7th Bash Younas -- £1,500
8th Abdul Qadoos -- £1,200
9th Lagi Kafetzis -- £900
10th Vp Truong -- £600
Meanwhile, whilst this event was drawing to a close, 110 more poker fanatics were awaiting the start of the hotly anticipated £300 No Limit Hold 'Em Freezeout, an Event that was eventually won by Skalie, albeit after the final 3, one of which included Gala Nottingham regular, Bash Younas, had struck a deal.
1st John Kalmar -- £10,800
2nd Jonathan Farrer -- £5,500
3rd Bash Younas -- £4,800
4th Asher Derei -- £3,000
5th Lagi Kafetzis -- £2,300
6th Mark Lowe -- £2,000
7th Paul Webb -- £1,600
8th Simon Cawley -- £1,300
9th Phillp Tsang -- £1,000
10th Terry Halliday -- £700
And then, come Friday, it was time for the Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain Event, a rather lucrative £500 No Limit Hold 'Em Freezeout. And with £13,500 on offer for whoever triumphed over the other 76 competitors, it was Kyriacos Dionysou (try saying that more than once) who eventually reigned supreme when he fended off the likes of Eddie Lundon and Byron Greenhow who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Other recognisable faces that made it to the final table were last year's William Hill Rankings Winner, Mickey 'The Worm' Wernick, blondeite, Ben 'Sunday8pm' Mayhew, Walsall regular, Maurice Nicholson, and recent Grand Prix winner, Zahir 'Zippy' Aslam, who appears to be on hot form after also taking down a side event in Dublin.
1st Kyriacos Dionysou -- £13,500
2nd Eddie Lundon -- £6,700
3rd Byron Greenhow -- £4,400
4th Chetan Patel -- £3,500
5th Mickey Wernick -- £2,700
6th Ben Mayhew -- £2,300
7th Mirza -- £1,900
8th Jonathon Farrer -- £1,500
9th Maurice Nicholson -- £1,200
10th Zahir Aslam -- £800
So, a successful festival all round with a pretty decent turnout to boot. Well done to everyone who cashed, but especially to the array of blondeites that made final table appearances.
