After a hard day’s night at Walsall, I returned home ready to hit the sack, but after briefly checking for any new messages on the blonde forum, I was lured in by a late night thread, one that was simply titled ‘Stars $1M.’

To my surprise, as I read through the thread, I quickly learned that blonde’s very own JP Kelly was hovering around the top three of the PokerStars Sunday Million with only 3 tables remaining. Realising how big an opportunity this was for JP, I quickly logged on to offer my support.

Unfortunately, PokerStars don’t allow players to rail unless they have the buy-in in their account, which in this case was $530. However, I was there in spirit and posted my good luck messages on the forum.

With aggressive players and intimidating blinds it wasn’t long before we reached 20 players, then 15, and then, out of the blue, we were there, final 9 and JP was one of them, still going well with around 2.4 million in chips.

From what I can recall, his most crucial encounter leading up to the final table was a timely double up with Pocket Nines versus A-7 suited. That put him up to the near 3 million mark, and he simply aimed to maintain that stack without doing anything rash until the final table.

And so, with a cool guaranteed $16,704 for the first casualty and a player known as ‘apestyles’, who we now understand is American pro Jon Van Fleet, possessing a monster chip lead, JP was in with a great shout of climbing the ladder and really attacking those big big bucks.

As they fell one by one, predominantly at the hands of apestyles who was playing a marvellous big stack game, JP’s prize grew and grew until there were just 5 left and a massive $53,784.50 in spondoolies for the next exit.

Unfortunately for us tired but thrilled voyeurs, however, it was JP who was destined to take that next spot. Making a move with Q-8, he was unlucky to run into a passive player’s A-Q, and with a raggy board hitting the felt, JP was a gonna.

A great performance from the young JP Kelly and one that almost echoed that of previous Sunday Million winner Richard ‘Squelch’ Redmond, who took the title a few months back. But it wasn’t to be for JP this time round, as he just missed out on that quarter of a million prize. However, we all know that he’ll be back to challenge for 1st place and nobody will be surprised if he chalks up yet another big scoop in the near future.
