Alan Goehring has won the 2006 L.A. Poker Classic Main Event, taking home a massive $2,391,550. The 44 year old pro, who coincidentally celebrated his birthday on the same day he lifted the trophy, fought off 691 other competitors to scoop first prize.

Although John Gale, Juha Helppi, Van Tran, and David Chiu all made it into the top 20, the final table was full of relatively unknown players, Goehring perhaps being the most familiar name present. However, his win was no pushover, and he was forced to cross swords with a very tough opponent in Daniel Quach, who held the chip lead for much of the final table.

The final hand came when Quach moved all-in with K-8 off, only to find Goehring sitting on a tasty A-Q holding. Although the Q-J-9 flop gave Quach just a glimmer of hope, no straight arrived and Goehring was left to scoop the chips and the L.A. Poker Classic title.

The final results are as follows:

1st = Alan Goehring -- $2,391,550
2nd = Daniel Quach -- $1,162,560
3rd = Michael Woo -- $571,315
4th = Steve Simmons -- $338,803
5th = Van Tram -- $265,728
6th = Per Ummer -- $199,296
7th = Anahit Galajian -- $166,080
8th = Kevin Casey -- $132,864
9th = Michael McClain -- $99,648
