Gus Hansen overcame a 3-1 chip heads-up deficit to win the 2007 Aussie Millions Championship and $1.5 million Australian dollars against online poker pro Jimmy 'Gobboboy' Fricke. Though the Brits didn’t get to the big moolah, Ross Boatman and Blonde’s very own Paul 'Pab' Foltyn managed good money finishes ending up 26th and 35th respectively, impressive, considering there were 747 original runners.

The final table was played 7-handed with the chip counts starting as follows:

Jimmy 'Gobboboy' Fricke -- $5.175M
Gus Hansen -- $4.845M
Andrew Black -- $2.1M
Kristy Gazes -- $1.05M
Julius Colman -- $785K
Marc Karam -- $535K
Hans Martin Vogl -- $455K

Gazes (left) finished 7th when racing her A-Q against Hansen’s 9-9. Becoming a more and more familiar name on the world poker ciruit, Gazes fought a good fight, but couldn't quite win that vital coinflip.

Post Gazes exit, Fricke would continue to dominate the table pushing both Andy Black and Hansen off pots to take his chip count to over 6 million. It would be the Dane though, again, who would eliminate the next player, taking out EPT Grand finalist, Marc Karam, with A-9 Vs K-J.

Vogl and Colman both went out in quick succession, Vogl with A-9 to Fricke’s K-J whilst Colman, the last Aussie, lost with A-6 to Black’s Q-Q.

Fricke then would begin to dominate the two big name pros - at one stage, he had 9 million of the 14 million or so chips in play! The pressure he exuded began to tell and shortly after, Andy Black became his next victim with A-Q vs K-Q, thereby forcing the consistent Irishman to settle for third prize.

Fricke now held over 11 million chips in play to Hansen’s 3.77 million, but the 'Great Dane' managed an early double-up with A-2 vs K-Q on an A-K-7-8-5 board. He then followed this up by wresting the chip lead from Fricke in a number of small pots. Fricke would eventually be forced to move all-in on a J-T-T flop and, although Hansen agonised for ages, he eventually calling with A-K. Surprisingly he was ahead as Fricke held K-Q for just the open ended straight draw. A 9 came on the river though and the American managed to double through, thereby regaining the chip lead.

The lead would flip yet again on a K-J-6 board when Hansen’s K-T held against Fricke’s Q-9.

The endgame came when Fricke check-raised all in on a Qd-8d-6c board with 9c-7c and was called instantly by Hansen’s pocket Aces. The 2c turn made Gobboboy’s draw that much larger but the 9s river could only give him one pair and second place.

So a great start to the year for Hansen who shot to fame in the first series of the WPT winning two events. Also, you have to tip your hat to Gobboboy, a regular on the 2+2 forums, who is often seen on the final tables of most of the big online tournaments that are played on Sunday nights. Finally, for those suffering cricket fatigue, at least the Aussies didn’t win this, eh?
