As the only European stop on the World Poker Tour, the Paris WPT at the famous Aviation Club has enjoyed the presence of esteemed pro's such as Phil Hellmuth, Devilfish, Gus Hansen and Dave Colclough and broadcast some of the most entertaining poker ever to hit our screens.
However, for this year at least, it appears as though Tony G versus Surinder Sunar -esque battles will be a thing of the past with the French government stamping down their authority by ensuring that the event stays off our TV screens - a huge blow for one of poker's most renowned organisations.
This latest decision follows France's recent expulsion of online poker, and is surely a sign that they are adamant in minimising the effect of online branding. With the WPT hosting their own online cardroom, they inevitably fall into that bracket and are therefore seen as promoting an activity that is now frowned upon in France.
Although the cameras won't be there, the show must go on and the event is still scheduled to take place. However, with the resulting decrease in media representation, many players, the big names in particular, are sure to be put off.
As a seemingly permanent part of the blonde Live Update schedule, there is also a vast chance that Jen and I will not be attending either, the interest sure to wane due to the absence of the WPT television crew. However, no final decision has been made and, considering the popularity of the recent untelevised Polish EPT, a last minute decision from blonde poker could be on the cards.
With it's prestige, long history and established bond with the Tour, many would be surprised if the Aviation Club's relationship with the World Poker Tour came to an abrupt end, but this most recent of hindrances may encourage WPT officials into looking for an alternative and less troublesome venue. Dusk Till Dawn anyone?...
