Stephen Holden, of Telford, beat 110 other poker players including the Hendon Mob’s Barny Boatman and Joe Beevers, Julian Thew, Mike McGee, Iwan Jones and Paul Parker over two days, leading up to final table on the evening of 14th May.

His prize includes £19,900 winnings and a package to the £2,500 Grand Final Main Event in October 2007, where the ‘Great British Poker Champion’ will be crowned.

And he was lucky to have a seat in the first place – Stephen secured this by winning the £200 poker event the night before and walking off with £4,990 and a bonus seat into Saturday’s Main Event, which he then went on to win.

The televised final table featured a mix of players. For all news and final results, please visit: http://www.gbpokertour.com/news.html

Stephen said of his win: “I’m delighted – the dealer kept delivering great hands and some strong plays ensured that I came out on top. After putting in so much effort at card tables all around Nottinghamshire, this is a result to remember!”

“The Great British Poker Tour is a brilliant chance for UK players to show off their skills in their own country,” he continued. “So many tours are focused abroad, so it’s good to face some homegrown talent on our own turf. I’m now hoping I can bring the overall title home to Telford.”

The next stop for the GBPT is Bournemouth 13th – 17th June. Interested players can qualify by playing on www.galapoker.co.uk, or at selected Gala Casinos throughout Great Britain.
