In what has become renowned as being one of the best comps around, the £300 double chance freezout at Walsall sees, as blonde’s only survivor, Tom ‘RED-DOG’ McCready heading into Day 2 with 26,000.

With yours truly dropping his chip-lead in inevitable circumstances, and Sir Anthony Kendall running his Big Slick into bullets only minutes previous, the coast really is clear for RED to run wild tomorrow and take the 1st prize of £15,000.

Standing in his way, however, is the always formidable husband and wife team of Phil and Nieve Peters, the always consistent presence of Jim Reid, and the always dangerous raising tom-foolery of Ali Mallu.

The overnight chip-counts are as follows:

Welay -- 158.5k
Ali Mallu -- 133.5k
C Thomas -- 81k
Zhenru Xie -- 77.5k
I Patel -- 68k
Phil Peters -- 62.5k
M Ong -- 58k
Jim Reid -- 46k
Alan Rutter -- 46k
Mrs Peters -- 32k
Rob Garfield -- 31.5k
RedDog -- 26k
L Yeomans -- 16k
V Morris -- 15k
J Gee -- 12,5k
Mick Fletcher -- 5.5k

In what is frequently a splendid and thoroughly enjoyable comp, may I take this opportunity to wish Magnum all the best tomorrow. Bring home the bacon, my good man.
