I've played poker for quite a while now, how can I step up on the ladder a bit?

I've played poker for quite a while now, but don't feel my game has progressed as much as I wanted it to recently. Are there any books or anything I can read to try and fine tune it or should I start playing for higher stakes, I just want a way to try and step up on the ladder a bit!

You certainly shouldn't be moving up to higher stakes unless you are beating the game at your current level. There are a plethora of books available all the way from beginners through to advanced. They are not always as helpful as they might be, but it does no harm to read as many as possible. The more information in your armoury the better. Another tip would be to watch the winners wherever you play. Try and work out what they are doing differently. Can you copy any of their moves or style of play? Also watch the losers. See if you can spot their mistakes. Then ask yourself, do I make the same mistakes?
