If they awarded prizes for the poker player who puts most thought into the game, many people would give the Whacker the gold medal. He literally knows poker inside out and upside down.

It seems like Garry has been around the poker scene forever but that’s not entirely true. It’s only 7 short years since his first foray into casino poker at the Grosvenor, Luton. He had plenty of experience in cash games at various salubrious venues in and around North London but it wasn’t until he found tournament poker that he made his name.

His roll call of achievements in European Poker takes some surpassing. Winning the European Player of the Year award in 2002 was possibly the overall highlight, but he has more final table appearances over the 5 years than some dealers! From Dundee to Brighton and from Moscow to Dublin the Whacker has finalised at virtually all venues on the European poker tour. And he so nearly crowned his poker career with a WSOP bracelet with a storming performance in a pot limit hold’em event in 2004, just falling short when heads up against Gavin Griffin.

An irrepressible character, he is never short of a cutting one liner at the poker table or help and advice for newbies or experienced campaigners away from the heat of battle.
His style may be described as “like the rock of bleeding Gibraltar”, but beware just when he’s lulled you into a false sense of security he will start to rob you blind.

If you are unlucky enough to be drawn next to him in a big tournament he will drive you crackers by fidgeting and getting up to see what’s happening on all the other tables seemingly every 5 minutes.

But, in short, Bushy is a top bloke and a great player. Just don’t ask him for tips on horses. He couldn’t pick a winner in a one horse race.
