This weekend riot police raided Belfast's Cavendish Club and seized in excess of £20,000. The precise motives for the raid are yet to be confirmed and club manager Sean Murphy is left questioning what is a very grey area of the gambling laws.

The raid occurred as over 80 poker players were competing in a £200 rebuy comp. The £20,000 was the current pot, but that was soon snapped away by the authorities swamping the club.

This story comes in the midst of the Gutshot court case kafuffle which commenced over a year ago. As such, the laws regarding licenses remains a controversial subject with many establishments looking for clarification to what is acceptable and what isn't.

Mr Murphy, who is said to be outraged by the incident, is set to appeal to the court for all monies to be returned.
