Gill takes her brother away on Holiday every Spring, he's single & she likes to look after him in life generally.
They are going to Dubai this year, & she wrote to them yesterday over some minor request.
Their instant reply was wonderful.
Thank you for reaching!
Well noted your request in our system.

Even by my standards, this will have very limited interest to most, but here's two super galleries of photographs from Hull Docks back in the 1950's.
And yes, I really did type that. Hull Docks. 1950's.
Each to their own, eh?
There is some crossover between the two galleries, but no matter, you'll either love them or yawn.

Hi Tony,
As you may know I was a Hull lad before the move to exotic Grimsby, and being born less than a mile from the docks in the early 50's, those photo's (or from Hull we say 4Toes) unlocked
quite a few memories:
The biggest being the Black Market that was the rife in those days, and at it's height in the 60's, it had gone from buying what was on offer, to telling the Spivs what you wanted and it would arrive within
a week or two.
Don't get me started on the Fish Dock.
Cheers
Dave

There's a lot more to it than that I think. He might not of realised that he was gay 27 years ago. Or maybe he did sort of know but was in denial or ashamed or whatever.
Things have moved on a lot in 27 years when it comes to gay rights. Could he have presented kids TV 30 years ago as an openly gay man? There was a guy I used to work with who was married, had a kid but was making passes at various blokes in the building. It's a rubbish situation to be living a lie.
I agree, heroic is probably not the right word, but I think brave might be. It's all part of life's rich tapestry or summit, innit.
Exactly my thoughts, some are over-simplifying a complex do. I'm busy this weekend working up in Manchester, so a little short of time, but I was trying to find precisely the words & sentiment you have used.
For the record, I never wrote or thought he was a "hero". My view was bravo him, & that my opinion of him has increased not lessened.
At face value, from his statement, which is all we have, his family don't seem to feel aggrieved or hard done by. They've enjoyed a high standard of living off the back of his earnings, live in a gorgeous house, & it all seems very amicable.
We have no idea when, or at what age, he became, or realised, he became attracted to men. I honestly don't know how these things work, & I doubt many of you do either.
We have no evidence yet that he has mucked about behind her back either. We can assume, but we can't convict on that basis.
It can't have been easy for any of those involved, can it?
I'm a little naive in these matters, so I may be completely wrong, but for now, I'm going to agree to differ with the negative sentiments towards the fella.
Twitter was comi-tragic. There's no middle ground there, it was all love or hate.
And in terrific timing, it appears Mr S is going to be outed today after having a recent affair with a male work colleague. Katie Hopkins is loving life.
Marvellous.
Moving swiftly on...
Think I'd best quit as Happiness Adviser.

Thanks Dave.
What times they were in the Docks in places like Hull, London & Liverpool.
Not so easy now that everything is in Containers.
I'm glad you commented though. I was hoping someone would, but I accept it's a bit left-field.
Hope Sue is well.

Man City v West Ham postponed.
That's how bad it is.

Not at all surprised. I've just been stood by the casino door watching the storm in total awe. It's horrendous.

Back then, as you will remember, those machines dispensed oysters caught from the Thames Estuary. As more people used the Tube, it coincided with an increase in interest in animal rights and matters came to a head with the then Mayor deciding to replace the system with tickets and they later got replaced by a top-up card.
Funny when you look back.

Very good.
I only discovered on Friday that there's no longer any need to buy a tube ticket in London - just use a contactless debit card on the barrier at each end, job done.
The use of cash is disappearing at an amazing rate. I've had £50 or £60 in my pocket for months & never once had need to use it, everything I spend now is via Debit Card.

And in Day 2 of the SPT, I manage to last precisely 2 hands.
The day is going really well, one way & another.

The storm has just arrived in Nottingham - I may only play nine holes today.

And don't I know it!
Regularly having multiple months >10 page bank statements to toothcomb on every case, lol.

Personally I think the use of the word 'admit' is pretty spot on here.
He has lied to his wife for 27 years!
Makes no difference to me what he prefers but all this hero stuff is a bit much.
And depending which bit of the media you believe he might only have come out as he was allegedly about to be exposed for a dalliance with an 18 yo co-worker.
