I didn't catch the immediate pre-flop action (although we can quite easily jump to reasonably accurate conclusions), but Greg Raymer's raise to 3,025 was facing a re-raise from a young Scandieboy on the button. With the cameras hovering over the tables like vultures, Greg conceded the hand with a Fossilman glare that silently bellowed 'next time, sunshine, next time'. "If you had Aces," he later added, "you should have gone all-in in, I could have called you then."

He lost out that time, but Greg is neverhtless running strong with 19k. Next door neighbour, Sorel, meanwhile, has 13,600.

The Apple Craig Hopkins has 16,125, although we're yet to hear any shouts from his usually adamant rail of blonde supporters. A couple of tables down, Julian is keeping in touch with 12k whilst Josh Arieh has his head just above water with 15,500. At the very back of the room, Ben Grundy has been unearthed; he's on 11k. Next door to him is Roland de Wolfe with 15.5k, the WPT and EPT winner fairly, but perhaps hypocritically given his permed locks, greeting me with a joking jibe at my hair-do.

Here raking in a pot as Ex-Seat-One hits the rail is William Hill's Julian Thew (This to be said in the same tone as film titles such as 'Bram Stoker's Dracula')...

Another player (not the one he busted) was congratulating him:  "Good Call," and Julian filled in the details.  "I always seem to have to make a nice call early in a tournament to get the ball rolling," he said, as if it would be much easier just to flop some nuts and get paid.

It turns out he'd held in the small blind, and had seen a two spades flop with BustedMatey.  He'd checked, Matey bet 550, Julian raised to 1,550 and then faced a c.5k all-in move.  He'd eventually called, and Matey had shown down

Yes, poor old Barny - he was apparently up to 23k when he got himself involved in a 30k pot. He raised utg with and got two callers, as you do.

Flop - Two Clubs - and Barny bet out small. One gentleman folded, but the gent on the button raised; Barny called.

Turn - and Barny checks. Mr Button bets, and Barny calls.

River - something raggy that was approximately the , and Barny checks. Mr Button moves almost all in, leaving himself about 3k behind - apparently not a massive bet compared to the size of the pot - so Barny put him for his last few k. Mr Button turned over . Ouch.
