Title: Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update
Post by: Djinn on June 14, 2006, 02:40:43 PM
So, it's the amalgamation of the players from days 1a and 1b, filling up the hallway/cash game area of the ACF.  Snoopy has been unfortunately lost for the last half hour, but it looks like the streets of Paris have not defeated him entirely, and I'm sure you're all looking forward to his special brand of updating...

But first, thanks a bunch to Celebrity Updater tikay - it reminded me of how much fun it is to commentate sometimes, in a fun place like this.    to the Original Updater who started the trend...

Anyway, we're hoping for a reasonably timely start, as we watch Dave Colclough, Thewy, Matt, Chubbs and so many more vie to take the title back to the UK.  Again.

133 started today, and there have already been a handful of early exiters.  In general, the chips seem to be split with the majority of players hovering in the 20ks, while a couple are well above the field, and the small stacks are making a bid for glory...

Sorry for the delay - I have found the press bit even more crowded than yesterday, and am currently kneeling in a corner with my laptop on a coffee table.  And this space is actually a timeshare with a Danish guy.  Sweaty is not the word.

Surely Grease is the word?

Hi folks

Incredibly, we've managed to stumble across the hotel after scouring the streets of gay Paris for an hour.

Seems there are two 177's on this road, and, not suprisingly, the naughty cab-driver took us to the wrong one. Bah, humbug!

Not a great day so far...

I'm wet, tired, hungry, and aching all over due to rain, lack of sleep, no food, and big heavy bags.

But, seeing as I'm an updating machine (cough), I'll be with you as soon as possible. Just to need to dry off and get a bit of tucker before I collapse.

See you in a jiffy.

Here's recently-out Thomas Middelthon, in a QQ vs KK decider.  He looks more cheery than one might expect...

Here's German George talking to Rolf - want to know what he's saying (I paraphrase):

"So I have Aspades Ad, I raise to 1,800.  The guy on my left flat calls.  Flop:  Ks 9c 2d.  I check, he bets 2,500, I raise to 10k, planning to fold if he re-raises, as that says "set!"  So he re-raises all-in - the pot is huge, 50k, and instead of passing like I planned, I stared at him for a while, and bearing in mind that he likes to bluff a lot, and seemed to be shaking a bit, I called.  He had 2c 2h and I'm out."

He's being quite critical of himself at the moment, but I'm sure he'll hang around to watch his pal Jan Heitmann...

Oooh, bok alert - Julian has just this moment gone -

After valiantly battling the hours of bad cards with patience, Julian found himself in much the same situation today.  After he was pushed away with preflop re-raises a couple of times, he had 8,000 and decided to "stop the rot" by moving in on the button with Ac 7d when it folded to him.

Unfortunately one of the blinds called with his Ad Js instead of letting him pick up the antes like he was hoping, and his run is over early this afternoon.  Slow couple of days for YoYo - but it happens sometimes.  At least it's glorious outside...

Thanks Tonji!

Dave has around 35k and that impenetrable image which is so unnerving sometimes... he just put the lovely Vanessa Rousso in a bit of a pickle when she raised to 1,500 in late position, and he re-raised another 2,300 from the small blind (blinds 300/600 ante 50).  She had about 8,500 in total left, and decided after a while to flat call.
Flop: 2h Qc 3c.  Immediately El Blondie bet out a stack-covering 10k, and she passed, her frustration showing as she exclaimed, "Why can't you put an Ace or a King out there - God!"

Double up for Elky with 7h 7d vs Ahrt Jh - a seven on the club-heavy flop let him breathe more easily, and he now has 14k or so.

Other counts:

Padraig Parkinson    20,300
John Gale              35,000
Surinder                47,000
Freddy Deeb          OUT
Matt Tyler             22,000
Anders Berg          28,000
Joe Beevers          29,000
John Duthie          52,000
Ramzi Jelassi          43,400

OK let me level with you - I haven't taken any photos since the first 15 minutes of the comp - but I'm just about to do another tour.  Snoopy is recovering from the foodless journey, and there's a wonderful rumour he may be bringing me pain au chocolat back in a sneaky manner...

We're actually at a *****************************break*************************** right now, so back in 15 mins with more of the glimpsed-over-someone's-shoulder action!

Hi Jen, I'm back in cloudy & grey London, missing you & Paris already.

Thank you for looking after me so well, booking my Eurostar & Hotel, & letting me whop you at our Late Night Heads-Up Session. (I beat her 3-2!).

As for sloppy, well, we won our bet - he was "no offers" to get lost. What a twonk. Though Jen & I BOTH lost our way from the Hotel to the Aviation yesterday - & it was ony 300 yards!

We have just finished 425, & I have a meet next, then over to do PNL, &, at long last, I get to go home first thing Thursday morning & meet the cat.

Thanks again Jen, you are a star, & I really enjoyed my brief return to Updating.

Good Luck to all the remaiing blondes, get the job done guys!

Yup, that was Deauville, following which I believe young Dr Livingstone, aka sloppy, changed his name to Kendally, which the Ruminting Camel seemed to find funny.

Rory Matthews is on 39k with the average being 37. - so, he's running okay but nothing spectacular.

There are 94 players wuth blinds of 400/800.

As I was checking the board, I spotted El Blondie.

He's currently sharing a table with Simon Nowab and Adreas Hagen, both of whom were involved in a hand.

Mateyboy bets 2.5k from underthegun, Hagen calls, and so does Simon from the button.

The flop comes in Ts 5d 7s.

Mateyboy bets 7k, Hagen folds, and Chubbs makes it 20.

After a brief dwell and the usul 'how much have you got behind you' rubbish, he eventually folds.

Post by: Djinn on June 14, 2006, 05:36:59 PM
That's an interesting table just there, in fact -
Vanessa Rousso   14,500
Andreas Hagen    40,000
Simon Nowab      40,000
DC                     38,200

The chips were correct about 20 mins ago - sorry for the lag, but Snoopy's wireless card doesn't like it here, and he's having to use the old-school Vodafone thingy instead.  Got to say, although it may not appear so due to heat and crowding, but I'm glad to see him....

gotta love the updates,
matt and i are off to drown our sorrows in some italian joint, swapping plentiful tales of woe...lol
as is always the case, the thought of seeing the family tomorrow does cure all known ills,
we'll stagger in later no doubt...

Bad luck Jools and Matt, have a couple of bottles of red and then you can go and terrorise the cash games  ::)

Terrorise the cash games?

Not even Thewy could do that in the Aviation. I was railing a Cash Game there last night - David Benyamine had top side of 100k in front of him, Bruno 40k, & several others in the 20k to 30k range. Only Euros, mind.

There was a 400-800 Limit game, & a 2,000 sit down Dealers Choice.

Tough to find the 25 quid table.

Monte Carlo king from a couple of years back, Jani Sointula, has just doubled through of courtesy of John Kabbaj.

All the chips went in on the turn (bet, reraise, all-in, call) with a board of Ahrt 5c Ac Jc.

Both were in the blinds with Kabbaj in the small and first to bet out.

Kabbaj shows Jd 7h and asks Jani if he holds an ace.

The answer?

AdQh

Jani punches the air and watches joyfully as the river brings a harmless Qc

Johan Storakers     25,500
Phil Hellmuth        105,000
Ram Vaswani         62,000

Rory Matthews is faced with a 6k bet on a 7c Td 2c Ahrt Th board, which he calls.

Opponent has A-K, Rory mucks, but his stack has taken a small dent as the pot was around the 25k mark.

I've been here at least 10 minutes and this guy hasn't made a murmur, in fact, he's barely moved a muscle.

I'm starting to suspect that he's a waxwork brought in to promote the event.

If that's true though, he's somehow managed to surpass the 100k mark, which isn't bad at this stage.

Here are Bob Cherrett (left) who, in one of those great photographic accidents, looks like he's crowned with the chandelier, and next to him young Edward Rhee.

Rhee recently eliminated Roland de Wolfe, who'd been rather mercilessly raising his blind, but who was also pretty short stacked.  Roland moved in for 9k, and Edward found Qc 9c in the blind - decided to go for it - ran into Qh Kd but flopped the Nine!

Hi, Jen. Is there any chance of a chip count for Tony "Rockfish" Mackay or Jim "Man in Black" Kerrigan?

No sign of Tony,  but Jim Kerrigan doubled up during this last level with Jc Jd against the then chip leader's As Kd, spiking a Jack for good measure.

Just now, though, he called a raise from Johan Storakers with Td Th only to find the button pushing in for 13,275.  Johan called, and Jim passed - then Johan said "I think you're bluffing" and turned over Aspades Js - unfortunately for him his opponent had Ac Qc and it stayed good.

And now time for a more dignified pic of Mr. Cherrett, who qualified online in one of those million-player, one-seat freerolls!  He says himself he's a 'novice' but it looks like he's holding his own here in the WPT... incidentally, sat next to Anders Berg, who looks twitchy in this photo, but actually isn't.

Almost a Mateyboy cubed moment, but I narrowed it down to squared once I realised that previous wpt winner, Victor Ramdin was involved.

Victor flatcalls, the small blind raises, only for Mateyboy on the big to move all-in.

After taking a sneak peek (naughty me), I see Victor muck fives.

The small blind calls with pocket nines, only to run into the big blinds ladies. Oddly though, the big tapped the table before he showed as if he was behind. Hmm.

Anyhow, the board didn't provide a third nine, but the flop did bring a five which would have tripped Victor up if he'd been in the hand, thereby scooping him a tasty pot.

As it happens though, the big blind survives, and rakes in the chips for a well-timed double up.

Joe Beevers has doubled up courtesy of an oldish English fellow called Tom.

Joe raised to 3.2k from under the gun and Tom smooth called from the big blind.

Flop comes J-T-5, followed by a Beevers bet of 3.2k.

Tom reraises another 6k, allowing Joe to make another raise for 15k more.

After a dwell of around two minutes, Tom calls with his pocket queens only to find Joe sitting pretty (well, elegantly) with his set of jacks.

The late night poker man must be on around the 65k mark now.

Johan Storakers' final hand was an all-in push preflop with 9c 8d, and he couldn't have been too unhappy with the 6h 6d call -

But the board came 3d Ks 5h Jc Kh which was no good, and another player shakes the hands and walks the out-walk.

Mark Teltscher has been relieved of his position in this year's European WPT by a certain Mr Phil Hellmuth.

All-in preflop.

Phil shows Big Slick, Mark A-T.

"Nice hand", comments Phil.

"I'm not out of the woods yet," replies Phil.

He was though by the river and an 8-3-5-2-A board.

"Bad play, Phil?" enquires Mark as if they've been pals for a lifetime.

"Seemed like...' hesitates Phil, "well, do you want me to be honest?"

Mark nods.

"I reckon it was a little too much to risk with A-T," critisises an honest Poker Brat. " I threw in 35k instead of 36 to make it look like a weak bet."

Mark shrugs his shoulders and exits the cardroom.

I've been relieved of my coke duties, but, in all fairness, he took his exit well.

Aaron, send this man 100 ipods as his prize.

Meanwhile, John Duthie is down to the felt after a rather nasty beat.

He called an early position raise with Q-8 suited (caused his own downfall perhaps?), and then, after the 5-9-J-T board gave him a potentially lucrative straight, shoved all those chips in quicker than a tikay exit.

Mateyboy, with his tourney on the line, flips over K-J and spikes a Queen on the river for a bigger straight.

Ouch!

I'm going to hang over Duthie now like a vulture, as it looks like his sawn song is fast approaching.

The Dinner Break Draws Nigh, and there are a couple of all-ins - one after a raise from Roman Yitzhaki to 3,500, a re-raise from the gent in the seat next to him to 10,500, and then a push for over 30k.  Roman passed quickly, Matey called quickly, and Hellmuth offered, "Kings?"

He was close, it was Qc Qd against Jc Jh and we're down to 63.

I had a banana bliss

Meanwhile, the players are back at the felt and I've taken a few minutes out to go face spotting.

Saw Mike Sexton at the bar, Jan Boubli hanging around a street corner, and Hassan Habib at the cash tables with a huge pile of chips in front of him.

But back to the action...

Sorry I'm late to the coverage ... that time difference from Europe to Las Vegas is a killer, especially when someone like me oversleeps.

Still plenty of players for the Americans to root for. The average American poker TV viewer won't know many of these names (other than Hellmuth), but there are plenty left that are well known in American poker circles. Is Padraig still in? He's a fun guy, even if he can be tough for us to understand sometimes.

And when you're looking for Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten, keep your eyes open for Sabina Gadecki. She's the new WPT host replacing Courtney Friel this year. (Courtney is the woman who replaced Shana Hiatt.) She's a very charming young girl, and she's very accessible. If you run into her, tell her that BJ, her unofficial official photographer, wishes her luck in Paris.

I've got a link to my website with some photos of her, but not sure of the policy here about links. I'll see if I can figure out how to post a picture of her directly here in the forums.

As promised, a few chip counts at this 800/1,600 ante 200 level, which has already seen 4 players eliminated...

Roman Yitzhaki    90,000    (and doing his best to wind up Phil Hellmuth on his table)
Phil Hellmuth      145,000   (and actually not getting that wound up, although firmly defending his 'best No-limit player' title against attack)
Dave Colclough    24,200
Tom Cherret       34,200
Tony Chessa       23,800
John Gale            OUT
Ian Macdonald     OUT
Karsten Johanssen  160,000
Nabil Ayoubi          41,400
Padraig Parkinson   29,000
Surinder Sunar       84,000
ElkY                     75,000
Ramzi Jelassi          38,500
John Kabbaj          OUT

Spectators are ominously starting to bunch behind their velvet ropes, which means that getting in and out is becoming more and more time-consuming, with more 'Pardon's as you nudge and are nudged in return, especially around Table Hellmuth, where the camera crews are enjoying the Banter.

The previous WPT host, Courtney Friel, just had a one-year contract, and it wasn't renewed. She's a TV journalist, and has already moved on to other things.

I figured it wouldn't be too tough to put Snoopy on the lookout for Sabina. But I think Jen will find she's quite nice too. Sorry you missed out, Tikay ...

Roland De Wolfe's assassin lookalike, Phil Jeh, adds more to his ever-increasing stack.

Flop = Kh 8c 7d

PJ checks, trap 2 bets 10k, PY calls.

Turn = Th

check check

River = 4s

check check

PJ shows pocket jacks, Mateyboy chucks down his cards, mucking in anger.

This is European shark Christer Johannsen (apologies for the potentially incorrect spelling).

Don't be too quick to count his chips up, he's just lost a huge pot.

I only caught the end, but there was already 60k in the pot.

The board reads 4h 9h Kd 8s Qh and Mateyboy decides to bet a rather tempting, but somewhat milky-looking, 15k on the river.

After a very lenghty dwell indeed (all other players had left for the break), Christer reluctantly makes the call, but looks displeased with himself when his opponent flips over an ultimately lucrative Jh Th.

Still, it's not all doom and gloom, Christer still has around 95k.

Tony Chessa is OUT.

He was Hellmuthed.

Phil raised preflop with K-9 suited, Tony moved all-in, and Phil called what was probably not too much more.

9 on the turn sees an end to Tony's WPT venture.

Just before the break, Roman Ferriolo took down a pretty chunky pot.

All I caught was his cards and the board...

which were Js 9s and 4c Jh 6c 8c Tc

He punched the air and celebrated with his girlfriend/wife (maybe sister, it was difficult to tell - no nookie involved)

Another table has broken, finally creating something like a path through the room!  Hurrah!

Some surprise OUTs -

Roman Yitzhaki, who had nearing 100k when I last saw him, just picked up and left - and with that they're down to 47 players, after a shortish stacked Anders Berg moved in with what looked like J9 and found AQ behind him calling, and hitting the Ace for good measure.

Also Tom Cherrett's adventure in high stakes tournament came to an end just now, with the major damage being done before the dinner break when he took his Js Jd against an aggressive player, who pushed all-in on the river (for the fourth time or so) and he decided to go for it - only to find Ad Ac against him.  So from 60k to out, in 20 minutes (give or take two hours)...

Bermuda triangle of the hat-glasses combo (and bit of an overview of the room for good measure).  Now imagine the people on the outside gently encroaching during twenty minute spells, before they're firmly shooed out and the Eternal Cycle continues.

Vanessa Rousso doubles up, making a bit of a scene in the process.

Vanessa made her move from the button, and found action from Hellmuth in the big blind.

Hellmuth = Kh Qc

Rousso = Ac Jc

Board = Jd 2c Ad 4h 9s

Rousso celebrates with a few cheers, simultaneously knocking down the table (and drinks - to which I took a spalsh) behind her with her flailing arms.

Incredibly, Phil didn't seem to bothered about the loss and the, whatsome may call, rubdown, and even became somewhat flirty post-hand.

Wierd huh?

Jim Kerrigan is OUT in 44th position.

Card-dead and, with the blinds at 1k/2k, forced to make his move pretty sharpish - which he did with A-8. Unfortunately for Jim, he ran into Queens, by which time, the whole table had preceeded to announce that they had folded an Ace. Grr, don't you just hat that.

(slight exaggeration to be honest)... but he still only had the case Ace to hit, which he didn't.

Phil 'bullet dodger' Hellmuth is on one of his rants.

Phil raised preflop to 16k, and Christer Johannsen.

I didn't quite catch what he was moaning about, but something to do with his hand being 'dead'.

Christer must have had his cards on the line or something, but, either way, Hellmuth was in full tantrum mode.

Strangely, Phil opted for a fold.

Sry, buddy, but Rory's a gonna.

Now sit back, you may need to brace yourself for this one...

Padraig, I hear, has quit drinking.

Phil Hellmuth has moved into fifth gear thanks to a timely double up.

On a board of 6d 5d 2d Qh, a local fellow (pictured below) bets 8k, to which Phil responds with a 16k reraise.

Local fellow announces all-in, and Phil, practically jumping out of his skin, checks his cards saying, 'hold on one second, I think I have the nuts,' before finally making the inevitable call.

Phil confidentally shows the Ad 8d, whilst Mateyboy reluctantly flips pocket aces.

The 9d river is academic, and Phil doubles up to 120k, maintaining that strange determined look that he seems to wear when he gets down to the nitty gritty.

And his opponent? Well, I think the expression on his face below speaks volumes.

-- Oh yeah, and before I forget, Jani S raises from the button the very next hand and Phil, still stacking his chips, raises to 17k from the small blind.

Phil's on a roll...

gulp

could be a loud evening.

Ramzi Jelassi, who came 2nd in Helsinki last week, is OUT.

Mateyboy raised underthegun, there was a flat-call, which triggered Ramzi into pushing 42k in with his pocket sixes, hoping that the original raiser had a foldable hand, or perhaps A-K, A-Q.

Unforunately, he had jacks, called, and, with no six hitting the board, took down the pot.

Joe Beevers is on 66.5k

There was a bit of a kafuffle earlier. Lots of shouting and lots of French being spouted. My francais is a tad rusty, well... fossilised really, so I didn't quite catch what they were moaining about, but it seemed pretty heated.

Anyhow, even though the Thomas Kremsers of the WPT were forced to step in, in all ended in smiles (perhaps forced) and handshakes all around.

After speaking to Joe, he claims to have been pretty card-dead over the last couple of hours. Few hands and few opportunities, especially with the table now playing ten-handed.

***************************BREAK*****************************

15 minutes for the remaining four tables to regather their strength for at least one more 90 min level... I was kind of prepared for it to be a battle to the bubble, and am not disappointed so far.

I heard from Henning that that fuss may have been to do with a ruling on "exposed cards=hand dead?" - which earlier in the week saw him forced to match an all-in which covered him, and then muck his cards, knocking him out of the €2,500 tournament.  He said that in this fresh case, the card-exposer was allowed to keep his chips, and only call bets - - a bit of annoyance expressed in the bar foyer area, and I don't blame him.  Rules, unusual or otherwise, are fine, it's just a matter of consistency.

Also had a quick word with Christer Johanssen, as I was eager to find out exaclty what Phil was moaning about during his 'that hand should be dead' rant.

Apparantly, Christer sat down just as his cards werer being dealt to him. A marginal decision, but one to which Phil was voicing his complaints, rather vocally as usual.

The interesting thing, however, is that the complaint only emerged once Christer had reraised Phil's initial bet.

Blinds have now shot up to 1500/3000 and we're down to 35 players. From what I understand, they're hoping to stop at the 27 mark.

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update

Finishing 35th was none other than Joe Beevers, with this rather unfortunate Jd Jh -
He saw a flop of 3d 7d 6d with Karsten Johanssen, and the biggest pot of the night kicked off - resulting in Joe making the all-in move with his overpair and flush draw, only to find Kd Kh against him!  It was pretty irrelevant as he was drawing to the Jacks only, but the flush came on the river, making Mr. Johannsen chip leader (again) with over 400k.

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update
Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 01:20:51 AM
Right before this big hand occurred, Elky made his last stand with 8d 8s, re-raising to 31k a preflop raise of 6k.  The initial raiser took his time about calling, as you may expect with Aspades Jc, but the board came a rather definitive Jh Jd 3d Ac Tc to knock the Pokerstars Star out.

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update
Post by: snoopy1239 on June 15, 2006, 01:24:03 AM
Patrice Lepage is OUT after calling an all-in reraise from Vanessa Rousso.

Lepage raises to 12k from early position, Rousso moves all-in with tens and the frenchman, after a longish dwell, makes the call with pocket sevens.

The rather vocal Roussa leaps from her seat, claps and chants 'Don't suck out on me', 'Don't suck out on me' after every card.

8-Q-5-K-J

... and then a punch of the air at the river.

It is quite unusual to find a female player who chats the whole time (although not when it's not her involved in a hand, unlike some) - example:

Vanessa Rousso didn't seem to like to tangle with Christer Johanssen (in fact telling him earlier "you scare me, I don't want to play against you - you find me re-raising I have the nuts," admitting to having made "the worst laydown of my life" to you.

Then a hand developed where Christer raised to 8,500 preflop, and Vanessa called.
Flop: Kh 2h Qs  a quick check-check
Turn: Ac  Vanessa checked, Christer bet 12,500 and she quickly made it 25,000.  Christer, a heartbeat later, put her to a decision for her whole stack.  There was the totally expected and utterly understandable dwell (interrupted by the dealer calling 'Time' and getting quickly overruled before a chorus of American voices raised holy hell, as well they might).  She's definitely a talker - "I don't have the nuts but I have damn close....I admitted to being scared by you.." thinking out loud like so she ended by (probably wisely) passing and saying, perhaps a little unexpectedly considering her earlier comments, "I'm assuming you have AQ..."   :dontask:

Surinder Sunar is very love, probabaly the shortest out of everyone, but he's just lost a few more.

He raised 3k preflop, Mateyboy made it 9k, forcing Surinder into a fold.

Surinder Sunar -- 17,500
Nabil Ayoumi -- 97,300

Vanessa Rousso is from Miami, Florida, and actually went to the same college as Pokerwire's Jen Creason (one of our American poker reporters). She appeared briefly on a Bodog TV special, and then bubbled at the recent WPT World Championship in 7th place. (In her defense, she went out on a bad beat, when her A-K suited lost to James Van Alstyne's A-J suited when a jack fell on the turn. They were both all in preflop; she reraised all in, and he called.)

With only those two things to her credit (along with her looks), she's been signed to Team PokerStars. Perhaps they wanted to fill the void left by Evelyn Ng, who moved over to Bodog.

Erica Schoenberg, who was shown in a photograph earlier, is one of the loveliest girls you'll ever meet. She's a class act all the way, and she can definitely play. She actually finished 16th in the same WPT World Championship as Rousso, but has more respect from other professional players. Erica has signed a big contract with MansionPoker.net, which Blondeites will recognize as the primary sponsor of the PokerDome event -- where Rhowena Colclough won their first televised speed poker tournament.

BJ and Flushie, it doesn't sound like either of you are much of a fan of Vanessa and I certainly don't condone players shouting for cards when they are ahead. In fact I think that it's a bad thing and shouting and giving high fives etc has no place in poker. I met Vanessa for the first time to day and I liked her. She is fun to play with and she was very excited because she got lucky in a pot earlier when she hit a runner runner flush to stay in. She thought that she was then on a freeroll and was generally very enthusiastic about the whole event. I think you might be being a little unfair on her but what do I know.

Vanessa Rousso is indeed OUT, eliminated by Jani Soyintula.

All the chips in flew in preflop with Rousso making the final push with jacks.

She was resistant to show her hand first, coninually asking if Jani had a pair.

She eventually revealed her hand after Jani showed A-K.

However, the king hit the flop, and Jani scooped the pot.

Rousso, at first, looked as though she was about to cry, before pulling herself together and announcing 'good game'.

I agree with these comments. As I stated earlier, she was indeed shouting for cards and so on, but I don't believe she was being intentionally rude or disrespectful. It's just that it's part of her character and her vocal presence is merely her releasing tension and excitement at these late and potentially highly lucrative stages of the tournament.

Besides, unlike various other players I've witnessed today, I don't recall her moaning or taking any digs at anyone. She seemed like a genuinely friendly and chatty person.

I agree and I don't even like players calling loudly for cards when they are behind. I just don't think that Vanessa would do it it a way that some other players would though. She seemed genuinly nice throughout.

I'll tell you the kind of thing that really gets me though and it happened at the same table. Maybe Jen or Snoopy could provide the names? A French guy sat on Eli Marciano's left made a raise to 10,000 in early position and the player in the ten seat, I believe he was from Norway, pulled his cards right in behind his chips. The dealer looked at me (I was in the 1 seat) so I passed, then four more players passed including Phil Helmuth who was on the big blind. The French guy started to move his cards forward and the dealer went to push the pot when Phil realised and pointed out that the Norwegian still had cards. Then the Norwegian tried to get a ruling that Frenchies hand was dead as it had crossed the line!

The point is that some people are good and some are bad. Mr Norway is genuinly bad and I believe that Vanessa in genuinly good.

Gabriel Burlet

And it's a rather 'one up the bum' nasty outdraw.

His all-in push is called by the Ac Kd of Thomas Whalroos. Gabriel flips Kc Ks.

Board = Js 6c Jc Qc 8c

Ouch.

Gabriel took it well, but looked gutted, whilst Thomas is left singing with delight. (Probably 'I am the egg man, I am the Whalroos) (ahem)

Angle shooters should be drawn-and-quartered, and I agree that is an offense against poker on a whole different level.

Bad etiquette = annoying
Angle Shooting = downright evil

As for the bubble -- What a painful beat! That turn card was viscious, increasing Whalroos from three outs to eleven.
