Title: Russia to host World Cup 2018
Post by: ACE2M on December 02, 2010, 11:26:21 AM
The ruskie bid looks strong, they probaqbly paid the appropriate bribes as well.  i was feeling cocky after the english bid went well.

Russia: Mafia/Organisedcrime/Putin...all of these pull the strings in government

Sportugal: Bust, can't invest in a WC

England: Safest bid

bet it's a stictch up for Russia though, money talks!

Putin not coming is a big issue apprently and word from inside by reporters is it is very close at the moment and bookies think the Putin absence may tip the balance.

It going to a 3rd round of voting is probably good news for England. From the breakdown I saw this morning that our hope laid in slowly picking up 2nd/3rd choice votes.

Hoping the Aussies get 2022, though the games would be on in the middle of the night.

Corrupt w*nkers!

The country does not have the infrastructure in place and social problems that make us look like Utopia. Who is gonna travel to some back of beyond Russian city for this...its not like the Moscow 80, where they can cover everything up...

I hope it falls on its face and FIFA come back to us cap in hand.

Why was it known on Twitter? How did AP get to know so early? Why did the Russians scream before the result was read out?

I ain't watching the World Cup anymore, its a corporate sham.

Even if we failed due to the Panorama investigations we still have the moral high ground. FIFA should be investigated and brought to book.

RANT RANT RANT

Who cares about Panorama when the Qatar choice (even more than Russia) proves that the investigation was correct!

I think Qatar have an excellent chance of winning the World Cup on home soil - if they can afford to spurn chances like this they must feel confident of scoring at will.

I was in the directors' area at karpaty lviv when the uefa delegation visited to check them out as part of the euro 2012 bid. part of the stadium was set on fire during the game and there was a riot outside the ground after, me and a friend ended up escorting one of the players from the exit and onto the bus at high speed to prevent him getting hit by flying bricks.

Absolutely ridiculous, esp giving 2022 to Qatar. The country only has 1.6m inhabitants. If they build 8 stadia for this and each has a capacity for 50,000, they could collectively fit 1/4 of the country's population into them. Not gonna have much use for them afterwards though. This should have been turned down on enviromental grounds as a waste of resources.

Mmmmm Qatar that'll be fun.

Absolute nightmare getting into and out of the country on Visa's (LOTS of experience on this)

AND

NO alcohol...

I went to the Qatar Embassy to sort out a visa for my brother a couple of years ago.
Going down some steps to a basement area following "visa" signs I saw one guy asleep in his office chair, and then went through a door that led to offices that were deserted!
They were still open for another hour according to their sign, but after sitting there for about 30 mins....someone wandering in and nonchalantly said "we're closed, come back tomorrow"!

agree in general but apparently the plan is to take the 12 stadia down after the WC and ship them to 3rd world countries and rebuild them, and this was a big hit with voters

Meanwhile, England did go out 1st and Russia won in the 2nd round. BBC also reports that Blatter briefed voters on "certain media coverage" before the vote. The guy's only concern is his own vested interests

Wtf how would this work?

I've known it in this country for individual stands, take em down piece by piece, back of a lorry, put them up again

quote

For a start, they’re only proposing only 12 stadiums. aka the minimum requirement.

That’s because they only have three of the 12 stadiums needed to hold the World Cup at present, and all three are slated for renovation. That means nine stadiums will be built from scratch, a tall order, and not something even South Africa attempted.

The plan is then to relocate the stadia around various FIFA confederations in disadvantaged countries

2 votes and there was an Englishman on the commitee!!   Fuck we are popular.

5 to blame why lets think:  Daily Mail
                                     Sunday Times
                                     Panorama
                                     That peado looking journo
Jeremy Vine for hosting the show

So lets see.  you earn say 100 million for hosting (just a ballpark figure)   bribe 22 officials 2 million each.   Total profit 56 million.   F uck fair play it gets you knowhere

OTOH if it was true, and the process was corrupt (I didn't watch it, but I think that was the gist?), then airing it before the process won't matter anyway because the process was corrupt.

Heads should roll at  the (former) Goverment and FA.

The reason they did it was because many of these FIFA members are old and may not be around to line their pockets take part in the decision in 4 year's time.

Junior teams get fined hundreds of pounds a year that they can hardly afford and amateur teams have to pay stupid fines to the FA. Last week a friends team who are cahs strapped got fined £10 for not offering the ref water at half time. They just gg $500m like that? Put it into youth football and get a team good enough to win in Qatar instead of trying to host a cmpetition that we all know is obv corrupt and our main tv channel host a programme 2 nights before about a corrupt team of judges who haven't made their minds up yet (officially) and are obviously scum.

FA wasted alot of money but the bid was spot on.
Alot of the fines aren't really stupid. Huge lack of respect by players throughout amatuer football and the fines should increase if anything. A £10 fine for not offerin water is a bit tight but it's not even £1 each. Cash strapped or not that's eff all.
I agree the FA is corrupt but not for finies in amateur football and not for this world cup bid.

Title: Re: Russia to host World Cup 2018
Post by: pleno1 on December 02, 2010, 06:52:47 PM
Lol, they had water. but just didnt offer it to the ref, petty. Teams physically intimidate other teams in amateur football and the FA do fuck all about it. The FA fine teams for the most ridiculous reasons but don't have the balls to do anything to the naughty teams.

500m with a 3/1 chance of getting the world cup (22/1 if you go by votes) or 500m into youth football to improve the biggest underachieving international team in the world. I know what I'd prefer.

It's been a bit overlooked in the media, but I thought Australia would have made a good choice and Like England they now have to wait years for another go.
I am working on the basis that China get 2026 and a European country gets 2030 or maybe a South American which means Australia have to wait until 2034.

South America can't host a WC, none of the countries there can afford it. 2014 was given to South America and only Brazil put their hand up and they are struggling. Things might change in the next 12 years or so right enough.

Apparently the other vote that England secured was one of the guys Panorama exposed  :D

oops. I meant less votes in round 2 than round 1.

In fact looking at it it's quite weird. Australia got knocked out in round 1 with only 1 vote but the next round votes were completely different. I guess if you know your original country is going to lose you might change, but for Qatar to lose a vote seems quite strange when they were 1 away from winning the thing.

Title: Re: Russia to host World Cup 2018

The voting just makes no sense at all.

First Round

Russia - 9 votes
Sportugal - 7 votes
Nelgium - 4 votes
England - 2 votes

England get eliminated, and they vote again.  So the two that voted for England must reselect, and you would assume that the other 20 would vote for the bid they thought was the right one about 15 mins before.

However

Second Round

Russia - 13 votes
Sportugal - 7 votes
Nelgium - 2 votes

Two of the original Netherlands/Belgium voters jump ship to Russia.  Why not just vote for Russia in the first place ?

And the 2022 vote was even stranger.  Both Qatar and Japan got less votes in Round Two than they did in Round One.

Is the executive committee that old and senile that they keep forgetting who they voted for fifteen minutes prior ?

If Russia was their second choice they may as well change their vote in round 2 when it becomes apparant that netherlands/belgium aren't going to win.

The Qatar one though really is bizzare. They're about to win so someone apparantly changed their minds and voted for someone else?

Don't see why you aren't forced to keep your first choice and only the eliminated voters are allowed to change.

A little more visibility on why FIFA wants to go to new territories

They are not interested in World Cup Ready countries. After all, England could host a World cup now-ish...the facilities, transport, stadia etc are all ready

Reading this morning that FIFA itself appoints the sub contractors for the stadia/infrastructure build in the winning countries and in effect takes an affiliate cut of the payment to the contractors

So the fact that Russia is not ready, that Qatar needs to build 9 stadiums (and, that Brazil has to build stadia and airports near those stadia as the venues are in far flung places this time) is an advantage to their bids.....

Meaning the technical reports/scoring/process is a complete waste of time....

I agree with this. FIFA may believe their desire to take football to new frontiers is an admirable one. And maybe it is. But if that's the criteria for selection then why allow a country like England to waste a lot of time and money submitting a bid? England topped the ratings in every criteria that FIFA itself presented to bidding nations. So to be told that the agenda they've been working hard to fulfill isn't actually the agenda at all makes the whole process a farce. And anyway this isn't how sport works. The team that outscore the opposition in every area win the day, they don't finish stone last. FIFA have picked the fat kid first and left the most talented player at the back of the queue. They might think this is a sound decision but it's definitely not a sporting decision.

Jack Warner blames the media for costing England the World Cup...."Fifa could not have voted for England having been insulted by their media in the worst possible way."

FIFA are entrusted to regulate football and make decisions that are in the best interests of the game. And in this instance it's widely recognised England had the best bid. So what FIFA are actually saying is they will reject good decisions on behalf of football if the free press in a bidding country has the audacity to criticise them. They will choose a lesser option to spite that country simply because that country allows free speech. Such childish words imo and no foundation for correct decision making. Playing football in the park as a kid there was one spoilt brat who owned the ball and he'd pick it up and go home if you gave him too much stick. Hello Jack Warner.
