International football is crap.

Hopefully these ridic decisions will lead to a further weakening of it.

I would rather watch El Classico or Man U v Arsenal than the World Cup final.

Absolutely ridiculous, esp giving 2022 to Qatar. The country only has 1.6m inhabitants. If they build 8 stadia for this and each has a capacity for 50,000, they could collectively fit 1/4 of the country's population into them. Not gonna have much use for them afterwards though. This should have been turned down on enviromental grounds as a waste of resources.

Mmmmm Qatar that'll be fun.

Absolute nightmare getting into and out of the country on Visa's (LOTS of experience on this)

AND

NO alcohol...

I went to the Qatar Embassy to sort out a visa for my brother a couple of years ago.
Going down some steps to a basement area following "visa" signs I saw one guy asleep in his office chair, and then went through a door that led to offices that were deserted!
They were still open for another hour according to their sign, but after sitting there for about 30 mins....someone wandering in and nonchalantly said "we're closed, come back tomorrow"!

agree in general but apparently the plan is to take the 12 stadia down after the WC and ship them to 3rd world countries and rebuild them, and this was a big hit with voters

Meanwhile, England did go out 1st and Russia won in the 2nd round. BBC also reports that Blatter briefed voters on "certain media coverage" before the vote. The guy's only concern is his own vested interests

lol why do they bother visiting these places to make reports on the bid? when it comes down to other things, like who bungs the shitty countries with a vote some wonger.com

I was in the directors' area at karpaty lviv when the uefa delegation visited to check them out as part of the euro 2012 bid. part of the stadium was set on fire during the game and there was a riot outside the ground after, me and a friend ended up escorting one of the players from the exit and onto the bus at high speed to prevent him getting hit by flying bricks.

the visit obv didn't affect the bid though as they'll be hosting 3 games in 2012

Was it midget football if he could shelter behind you?

Unconfirmed (again): England picked up just four votes in the first round, with Russia reaching the required 12 in the second #2018

If this is true then the 1st vote must have been
Russia 8
Beltherands 5
Sportugal 5
England 4
Russia could never have doubted it if they had 8 votes locked down

I've known it in this country for individual stands, take em down piece by piece, back of a lorry, put them up again

quote

For a start, they’re only proposing only 12 stadiums. aka the minimum requirement.

That’s because they only have three of the 12 stadiums needed to hold the World Cup at present, and all three are slated for renovation. That means nine stadiums will be built from scratch, a tall order, and not something even South Africa attempted.

The plan is then to relocate the stadia around various FIFA confederations in disadvantaged countries

much the same thing would've counted against the english bid. putting an extra tier on franchise fc's stadium has to be the most ridic waste of resources I've ever heard of

Freedom of the media is more important than running a corrupt football tournament imo.
