22 of 69 made it through 1a

35 of 113 made it through 1b

Today is an important day for DTD, as Rob Yong explains

"So the numbers are a little behind our targets going into the home straight tomorrow:

Day 1a Online 69 runners (target 75)
Day 1b Live 113 runners (target 125)
Day 1c Live Huh? runners (target 300)

Because we are 18 runners behind target, we now need 318 players tomorrow, to put this into context, the record for a previous Monte Carlo is 313 runners over 2 Day 1's, so we have to exceed that - but all on the same day. Currently we have 183 pre registrations for tomorrow, so need 135 players to stump up £1K tomorrow.

Once you go into the £1K mark, direct buy-ins a whole different ball game, that is why we have always been cautious not to GTE more than £250k (250 runner) for the previous Monte Carlo's. However, we felt we wanted to have a punt at getting the Monte Carlo up to £1M so we are punting this week and are not million miles away - would love to hit the number going into the ISPT launch next week, will give us a boost:)

Cheers Rob"

Mr Tim Wright aka Charliek on here

Tim is the most successful poker player to emante from Swindon

However, this is damning with faint praise somewhat. Tim is the Swindon Town of Poker, Dwayne Quinn is probably the Swindon Supermarine FC of Poker and after that we are into the Didcot Town's of 5toneface and the rest

Well done Tim, anyway...

TommyD is down to around 20,000.

He lost a chunk to a mondatoo

Tommy had A-Q on this flop......

Q-Q-9.

Which is nice.

Ray, meanwhile, had 9-9. Which is nicer.

Entirely possible to do the lot there, but Tommy found the fold.

Ray said afterwards "gfyujkkjlhedxsesrtjdrrdykrtdflopen would you like fries with that?".

which is Geordie for "unlucky sir, my hand was very good, nice fold, would you like fries with that?"

No

that makes it tougher for them, but they stopped same day re-entries as they were unpopular with many who thought they were at a disadvantage compare to those wanting to re-enter on the same day who could play the first bullet fast etc etc

bobalike 400 with A-A

Terry "maniac" Jordon calls

Limper folds

9-3-8 flop

bobalike 800, called

I join a key hand mid-action for Lil Dave Nicholson

The board reads  8s Qs Ts 2h

Dave says to me "Its not going well".

He has 5,500 in front of him

He is UTG and he has bet the turn for 4,000 or so

On the button, every cheery Ross "Yeahman" Patman is chewing a rubber band. Contemplating action. He calls

On the river  Kh Nicholson shoves the rest in

Patman tanks

and calls

Nicholson is reluctant to show. Convinced he is out

Patman is even more reluctant to show.

Encouraged Nicholson flips  Qh Js

Patman mucks, and Nicholson moves back towards his starting stack...

Story checks out on Terry Jordon.  Played him not long ago at DTD, plays a lot of hands and a lot of them aggressively.  Was tough to fold AA.  Hope bobalike got his chips back.

Steve Warburton

Steve has to contend with playing directly o-o-p to Ian Gascoigne

If he knew this, would have have bought in?

One of the imponderable questions of big buy in tournament poker remains unanswered....

but just in case I am going to do this briliant toddswain lookalike from yesterday, this time for John Black and his twin

The good diary of John Black  Age 12 3/4

Tom Ambler raises to 400

I look down at A-2 suited.

Yippee, I can play the Ace-deuce game

I peel, consider the min click float jam strategy but decide to play small-ball as tighty is watching. and So, more importantly is Jake. Jake is next to me. I wonder if he knows I crush NL10 over 127,000 hands? Only on Friday nights though. I will have to strike up a conversation with him

Another player comes along. Stupid of him. How can he hope to outplay me in the Ace-Deuce game?

the flop comes Q-8-2

Perfect. I have a pair

Ambler bets into me

Perfect again, for volume 35 of the John Black Ace-Deuce strategy guide

I raise. Completely standard in this spot aainst a non-thinking opponent like Ambler. At least I think he is non-thinking. Everyone is compared to me. and pleno. and Jake. Oh Jake, you are so close to me it hurts.....

Tom calls

We both check on the Ace turn. This is wonderful not only am I playing the Ace-deuce game but I have an Ace and a deuce on the board to match those in my hand. Pleno taught me this means I have two pairs. Oh Jake, I am going to make you so proud...

the river is a blank

Tom checks

I overbet rim dunk slam jam, as I do against the Ukrainians on a Friday.

Tom thinks about it and I think he is going to call.

He folds though

Jake looks at me. Yes, he looks at me!

----

The bad diary of John Black, age 12 3/4

George Baldock raises

Baldock is a town in Hertfordshire

I learnt that in basic spy training....

Someone I do not know and therefore they are unimportant peels. Fool.

Jake Cody folds in the small blind

Oh Jake, I so want you to out-play me in a hand so I can see what it feels like

I flat

Q-Q-5 flop

Perfect, if I have any hand really. He can't possibly have any part of it and I can use being out of position to outplay him as Jake would want me to do

I check. For deception. I only ever check for deception

Baldock bets 700

I call, with ultimate dexterity, hopefully Jake notices the artistry with which my right index finger flicks those chips in

9d We both check

3h

He has none of it

I bet 1200

He makes it 3100

Oh. Can't give up now, Jake is watching

10,000. Take that Hertfordshire town man

He shoves for 35,000

Oh. Oh. Jake, I'm sorry. I only wanted to impress you. Jake, Jake, Ja....I fold

yup 35,000

He is on the same table as a big hand I saw

Sam Grafton opened and got five callers. Only five, including Sky Poker player Steven Carr

10-J-7 flop, two diamonds

Checked round to Carr, last to speak who bets 1,000

One caller

Grafton 6,000

Carr flats

Heads up to the turn 3 of diamonds

Grafton shoves, just over a pot sized bet

Carr calls him with A-J top pair top kicker and holds against K-Q the up and down on the 7 river to go to over 80,000 and knock Grafton out

Oh. Oh. Jake, I'm sorry. I only wanted to impress you. Jake, Jake, Ja....I fold

Nice hand bro. :)

Its difficult to win chips when I have 93o every hand.. Trying tho.
12k @ 150/300/25

Had one tough spot earlier where Chris Smith did a bluff and had to fold a pair, then did the river 3bt with some live reads that turned out to be not so concrete.

Grindin and chilling.

Jakes had some Eugh spots.. Getting reraised all over the shop.

We have another new chip leader

This is Andrew Garland, from Bristol. Regular player on Sky Poker cash games, at all the bigger levels they run

Up to over 150,000

To quote the player next to him

"Keeps getting Aces and Kings. Has no idea he has won the pots, but keeps winning them" which is said with a smile, not harshly

Andrew, an amiable fella, is from the Alan Stearn school of accepting criticism. Doesn't give a toss.

Not even joking, the guy has 3bt the last 5opens from Cody in a row and when Jake squeezed his open he insta snapped the 4bt in.

Just did it again and after a grimmace and fold he was shown AA.

Big hand for Tom Ambler.

Raise from Chris Smith, call behind and Tom calls.

FLOP
 Jh 7d Td

Chris cbets, fold and Tom raises.. Chris quickly gets the lot in, covering. Tom calls off with Jd 8d

Chris has J10 but is served instant pain on a 2d turn.

No pairup and Tom doubles to 75k

Ian Gwynne raises

Ashrique Miah 3 bets him

Gwynne 4 bets

Miah calls in position

10 high flop

Both stacks fly in, Miah covering Gwynne but it is the biggest pot I ahve seen today, well over 100,000

Miah 10-10

Gwynne A-A

An Ace on the river produces oohs and aaahs all round and dubles Gwynne up to 120,000

Miah is delfated...

Here's Gwynne from Cardiff

"He triple barrelled A-A-K-J-9, and was called all the way down by A-5 which won"

A-5 of Gavin Colclough who is now up to 125,000. Not sure he knows what to do with 125,000 Rotty, but he's got them.

Final figure was 322 players today

Overall prize pool £504,000

i reckon that might be a record for a £1000 event......probably wrong, I often am

Awesome effort from DTD to make the guarantee, but not even a record for this week! Berlin Cup got over 900 runners for an €1,100 (£942) event.

yeah, and the wsope £1k event which JP Kelly won had 600 and odd..............still great effort by DTD, bang on the money

and meant UK record, forgot to add that :)

Any news on the hair bear bunch tighty?

Yes he is next to Rastafish

Still under average with 60,000 but its been a very disciplined performance from the water monitor
Went to 35k about 35 mins after I changed tables got rivered by Rasta for a 30k pot and ground 15-20bb for remainder. Very very card dead but did beat acequeen with aceten suited and aceking with ace queen so can't complain. Chip and a chair!
