Pity you guys aren't in Barcelona, but I see that you're covering this Poker Classic or what in the Vic. Pity, because I had planned to make some money on a few sidebets with you guys.

And now that you are not here, there is just no one left who is stupid enough to accept my bets.  Kiss

Morning from Barca :

In years to come crash will become known as the Bentley of poker :

13 cards - mano a mano (or mano a mano a mano a mano a mano a mano as there were 6 of us last night)

It is a game of high skill, nerve, patience, bluff and downright dirty slow rolling tactics :

Its major appeal is we can laugh at each others misfortune whilst not paying the 30 euro rake per hand that the good peeps of casino de barcelona charge us for misdealing/miscounting/mispotting every hand we play in a cash game !

The current world champion at this game is Paul 'I'm the dirtiest slow roller in history' Jackson. His notable lack of skill is more than compensated by his ludicrous luck and current form.

Last night's beatch was the mad monk Tony Chesa who amptly demonstrated the lack of poker basics required to play this most complex of games. He has been advised to get lessons off our inaugaral 'Crash Beatch' Mr Mickey Wernick who was missing from last night's action as he was still involved in a little side comp at the casino citing 'withdrawal symptoms from final table action'

After we get the formalitiles of the 2nd round of the WHUPC over with today we can settle down again to the real action of skinting each other - live crash thread will be availablle on demand

Mr Slotboom! Hi, & I hope you are well.

Your Post gives me the oppoprtunity to explain why we are not in Barca, because I ave been assked by one or two to justify my decision.

I decided, after much agonising, not to cover Barca, for a multitude of reasons. The main ones being....

Cost - 10 days for 2 people is very expensive - Barca hotels are not cheap, & Heads Up is not the ideal vehicle for updating. We were looking at €2,000 to €3,000, at a guess, including flights & living exs.

Staff - It would mean Jen & sloppy being away 12 days, & that's a big lump out of their diary. I may want them to do to Dublin for 6 days next week, then there's a host of Domestic Fessies, & Vegas. We are recruiting (have recruited) additional Staff to Update, but they are not on board yet.

Internet Access - Last time we were in Barca, there was no Wi-Fi, just a single "hard-wired" connection in a back office, & our Vodafone thingys had very poor signal.

Member Interest. Are the blonde Members THAT interested in the Heads Up? Some of them, yes. But there has not been much visible sign of huge interest so far, nor many Posts bemoaning our absence.

But set against all that, I guess we coulda recouped the cost via side bets with you......

Take care Rolf, see you soon no doubt. Oh, & thanks for all your help buddy, it would not have been possible, or half as much fun, without you around.

Rolf,

Thanks for the odds calculating help yesterday. Indeed I am stupid enough to have another sidebet with you, following on from our Monte Carlo one involving Marcel and whoever I picked.

How about we each pick one player from each bracket and we have a €5 sidebet on each, treating each bracket as a separate bet. €10 bonus of one of our picks wins the whole thing.
Cheers,

Jonathan

Today the 2nd round matches take place. I´d do a live update but unfortunately the wireless is still not good enough in the casino and I have two Blue Square players to cheer on so I´ll be too preoccupied to do much updating.

Yes, both the Blue Square players safely made it through to round two - Mickey Wernick and James Atkin.

Today Mickey faces Italian Valentino Pedron, while 21 year old James faces Frenchman Xavier Malandran.

OK thanks guys - nice talking to you Mr. Tikay. I have just talked to this other nice gentleman Mr. Jonathan Raab. He has taken on the bet! €5 for every person in the bracket (whoever last longest wins), and €10 extra if one of our 'horses' manages to win. As my dear friend only seems to know players who (in a distant past have, maybe once) made a fourth or fifth place in Walsall or Blackpool or so (ah! just to stir up some controversy  Cool), this is what we have come up with:

Bracket 1... Jonathan: Mickey Wernick Rolf: Antony Lellouche (ah well - I gave my friend first choice. Else, I too would have picked Mickey)
Bracket 2... Jonathan: Simon Nowab Rolf: Chister Johansson (have to admit - Simon = a good choice. Great mentality)
Bracket 3... Jonathan: Simon Zach Rolf: Pascal Perrault (even though he does take a few too many chances for my taste. Still, a potential winner)
Bracket 4... Jonathan: James Atkin Rolf: Noah Boeken (have to support fellow countryman I guess)

So, I calculated this could cost me both €30 and my reputation - I don't know which of the two would hurt me more.  >:? Feel free to throw your own two cents in - if only just to keep this thread alive.

Best regards,
Rolf.
