Bad play? - how should I react to the turn bet?

What did I do wrong here - I hadn't shown many hands, and any showdowns had me with strong hands....  the other guy had been playing pretty solid...

Don't limp with these would be my advice. Also be careful because your six changes suits before the end of the hand.

so why are you limping with this rubbish and betting on the flop and check calling on the turn?

steal raise with it if your hand values have been that solid, and if you must take one pop at it on the flop and then give it up...

No problem, not a call I'd usually make but with position and no preflop raise you have a chance to take it on the flop last to act.

they check you try to take it, betting 400 into a pot of 700, ok, not terrible however the bet is not huge and with 3 hearts on board you don't know if they are calling with a draw or a king or....... once you have the company of 2 players you should be done right there with this hand. To keep it very simple when you have 2 callers assume 1 has the draw and one has top pair, your Queen is no good and your steal didn't work, don't try to bluff out 2 opponents, it usually ends in tears.

He bets 800 and although this makes the pot 2700 you should not call here, you don't have a heart, you are hoping for another queen or 6 and you don't have the odds, this is a really bad leak here.

You try once again to steal it but the call for him is only 1000 and the pot is 3500......... with the 4th heart coming out he is scared but also knows you may have another stab at it if he checks and he sees your bets are not consistant and also, his bet on the turn may also hint at a heart trying to buy a card cheaply, in fact I'd be thinking he had the king and a heart here...he will lose 1000 or win 3500, he is right to call and does.

Thx - thought it was no good.  I don't think there's much wrong with seeing a cheap flop here on the button - I have reasonable chips and I'd be doing this to good effect for a while as the table wasn't very aggresive preflop.

The thing that threw me is that the guy didn't bet with his K.  Why not?  Was he really that scared of a made flush?  Maybe he didn't like the kicker and wanted to check call it down.  His betting sequence just didn't make much sense to me.  If someone had the made flush they might well bet to defend a fourth heart (unless of course he has the nuts).  That's why I called the turn bet, and that's probably the key mistake.

He bet the turn because if he put you on a flush draw, you are less likely to make your flush with one to come (I would have made it a little more perhaps 1k) because you are approx 4/1 to now make it and not 2/1 from the flop. He was also in the bb and whilst he might suspect that his K was good, he decided to find out your strength on the turn rather than a check raise or a lead on the flop.

I agree there is nothing wrong with playing Q6 on the button, we all do occasionally, but what I don't like is the call. What kind of flop are you hoping for? QQ6? If you must play it, then bring it in for a raise. The pot has not been raised before you and this achieves two things.

1) It can give you an extra way to win the pot
2) You take control of the pot.  This is important because you have position and post flop not only can you see the actions of the other players and the make up of the board, you can then also decide how to act if you pick up any kind of draw or made hand. You could take a free card if you desire or play aggressively if you think it will work.

Marginal rag hands are really just that. For example you wouldn't want to go bust here on a Q high board, but playing them aggressively means you can gather chips and if you occasionally get burnt, you will more likely get action from your big hands.

Position is everything.

On the turn you cant call, if you think he is weak then raise, but you cant call!!!!!

I too think he has a K with a low heart or mdeium kicker at this point and on the river you just cant make a move, he is calling.

lesson learnt, cheers guys - I'm trying to loosen up a bit and mix in more hands which might catch people when I have a reasonable stack... I don't think I do this enough, but the challenge when playing these hands is not getting caught up in them too much.... I just couldn't understand why he'd only bet the turn with a K, but I'm getting there.  Ta.
