The longevity of the Internet player
«
on:
June 26, 2006, 06:48:01 PM »
One thing I hear said time and time again by older pro's is " lets wait 10 years and see if they are still around " when referring to the new breed of Internet players.
This is mentioned in the new " Swimming with the Devilfish " book, as well as many other texts, poker sites and interviews I have heard. I assume those who say it are referring to the current Internet stars that are making the cross over to Live poker with success. People such as Johnny Bax and Gank spring to mind due to their WSOP bracelets.
What confuses me is this, why would they not be there in ten years and still winning as they are right now?. They are clearly good players who probably have as great a ( possibly greater ) understanding of the game as the old guard do. They have seen many more hands in a shorter period of time than their older counterparts have in a lifetime.
What is there to stand in the way of an Internet star from mixing it with the best for years to come? I keep seeing things that almost seem to say the current breed of Internet stars are some how lucky and the old established pros's are the real talent in the poker world. Wasn't Mike Matasow crushed by H@££INGGOL online at UB? Many other examples clearly show that some internet players are as talented as the old guard.

Simple Sark, they are insecure. These "newbies" are much better than they should be, so those who seem them as a threat go about rubbishing them.

And such rubbishings are illogical.
If the newbies were fish, don't tap the tank.
If they're not, adjust to beat them or get out of the playpen Grandad.

if i ever have a big score the mrs will have me straight down the bank paying the mortgage off before I give it all to mahatma and co.
