Hi folks, check out this:

http://www.blondepoker.com/index.php?q=node/3003

If you have any questions or comments for Rob 'Rob S' Sherwood, then feel free to post them on this thread and I'll direct him over here to answer.

Hope you enjoy his diary. I've already had a read, and it's cracking stuff. Great to hear the hand analysis, truly fascinating.

Also, you may be interested to know who he's being spotting at the craps tables.

Enjoy!

(To access Rob's diary, simply click 'diaries' in the 'poker articles' section in the banner's menu bar at the top of this screen. Then select WSOP 2006)

just read the first three entries, so far so great, i like the fact it aint just poker hands etc, i like the vegas descriptions, bar food joints, night outs etc, really gives you a feel for what vegas really has to offer for the "social side of poker"  Reg. TM - Chubbs, BB1, Brummie

Question to throw over to Rob....

In the old days at Binions they used to pay out in $500 lammers which were easily re-saleable amongst players.  Is it the same at the Rio or does 1 person have to enter into the event and buy the other player out in a chop?

Ta!

Rob Sherwood's latest entry (Day 5 and 6 review) is not up. Click the link below to read or, alternatively, visit our 'diaries' section in 'poker articles' of the banner's menu bar.

Also, to Simon, I have made Rob aware of your question. I'm sure he'll post an answer on this thread next time he's online.

cheers all

Thanks for the comments, glad people are enjoying it. Simon it's exactly the same, all single table tournaments are paid out in $500 tournament lammers, which are easily re-saleable. For example I have been playing $525 buy-in tournaments. The prize pool is simply 10 x $500 tournament lammers and for some reason $120 in cash. So out of a $5,250 prize pool the house only takes $130. Not sure why the house fee is so low but the low rake makes them even more profitable.

Cheers Rob.  I think the idea of working out a buy-in that leaves a smidgeon of cash on top is so that the players can't have an "I don't have any cash on me" excuse when it comes to looking after the dealer.  In a standard chop h/u, you receive $60 each and on a $2500 slice it doesn't seem unreasonable to just leave it for the dealer, but I seem to remember that there was a "standard" tip that was the norm - just can't remember how much!

Thats just plain crap if thats the case. Why don't they just pay the dealer properly in the first place!

It is definitely the case - the cash is to tip the dealer.  US culture expects tipping in the service industry and dealers are considered part of this.

I feel the same way as Junior on this one, (see juniors blog entry) regarding tipping, ill only tip it the person deserves it, if not, they can run and jump!
