Anyone else think the ref was too hasty in the Khan fight?
Nope, the guys legs had gone.
As for the Williams fight, as soon as I heard he was >20stone I backed Skelton, didn't see the fight(set video but poxy thing didnt work) but going by what I have read Williams was too big and slow and Skelton outworked him. Williams biggest problem throughout his career is his laziness, both inside and outside the ring, he is one fight away from a world title shot and he can't even be bothered getting himself into shape, that says it all. Skelton is very limited but deserves all the success he gets due to his attitude.

apparently the shape williams was in was intentional. he rocked Skelton in the last round of the 1st fight so decided best thing to do was bulk up and knock him out. this is the other absurd boxing myth. "by increasing your body weight 2st you increase the power of your punch." a properly delivered punch is much more about hip and shoulder movement than body mass and the muscles most important for knock out power are the forearm muscles. your shoulders biceps and pecs can be as big as you like, they barely contribute to punch power at all.
I enjoyed watching Skelton work on saturday because he never threw a fully weighted punch all night. everything was for the score card and he conditioned himself to pepper williams for 12 rounds. Williams put his whole fight plan on landing a sweet punch on a faster, fitter, more intellegent fighter.
on a side note I thought the commentary was brilliant. Ian Darke on sky knows his boxing facts and figures like Motson knows his football but listening to him it's obvious he's never stepped through the ropes himself. He talks utter rubbish most of the time and drives me >:?

Missed this thread, should of let you known Danny was coming in like a whale, odds were always in Skeltons favour. Disagree that the commentary was brilliant, it was quite terrible actually, especially Rawling! Danny thought the extra weight would keep him in fight & bulk up his power, but power comes from great technique, and more so from the thighs than forearms. Both fighters weren't that great were they, I feel bad that these are our best HW's. Hope Gammer can improve.

I think I mean the commentary was brilliant compared to Ian darkes as I can't stand the bloke. perhaps it wasn't actually brilliant in its own right.
I Enjoy Skeltons fights but I obviously don't think he's world chaamp material.

Herbie Hide and Henry Akinwande had short careers when they were around. What happened to them?

i remember a couple of years ago herbie hide made a comeback.
he ruined his first jouneyman opponent.
when questioned on if he was going to take on danny williams for the brittish title he mugged him right off saying that he is a sparring partner to him and he doesnt want to fight people that he used to pay £50 a day to, to help him train when he was world champion, he said hes going to regain hes world title again.
anyway next fight is against another jouneyman fighter, as i'm sitting down to watch it the commentator says: dont go and make a cup of tea or you'll miss this one(it was a replay) i thought herbie hides gatting back to a bit of form.
WRONG!!!! this journeyman foghter knocked him down THREE times in the first round and that was the end of him!!

Herbie Hide could have been a very good fighter had he not had the worst chin in history.

Yeh Herbie had great raw power, I remember seeing his last fight that got stopped on cuts, he was crying like a little girl bless him, always liked him myself. Also Sprott isnt doing too bad either, he recently got robbed fighting abroad for some abc inter title and he;s fighting an unbeaten eastern/european tomorrow who has some good wins.
