GK: Buffon ITA - Never made a mistake.
RB: Zambrotta ITA - Definitely the best full back in the world.
CB: Thuram FRA - One of the all time greats
CB: Cannavaro ITA - Outstanding performances by the Italian Captain.
LB: Grosso ITA - I was very impressed with this player. Won a penalty against Australia, scored against Germany in the semi final - what a player.
MF: Cristiano Ronaldo POR - Love him or hate him, the boy is world class and showed what a great player he is. Could be better than Figo and Eusebio.
MF: Andres Pirlo ITA - He really suprised me. I never rated him, but he had a great tournament and played a vital role for the Italians.
MF: Patrick Vieira FRA - Reminded me of the old Vieira of 5 years ago.
MF: Zinedine Zidane FRA - The greatest?
FC: Miroslav Klose GER - Tournament top goal scorer
FC: Thierry Henry FRA - Played very well.

Not much i would disagree about there. Not sure about Henry but then there are not many strikers who played well in the comp.

My thoughts exactly. Defenders ruled this world cup.

He has a very bad attitude and he is a diving cheat, but he is very very good.

One of the most overlooked players has been R Marquez (Mexico)
Playing for a supposed lesser team and unlucky to come up against Argentina when they were on fire. Single handedly dragged Mexico up a few notches and made them go toe to toe with the Argies until the wonder goal put them out

Nem, I agree your left back was very good but did he win a penalty against Australia or did he cheat by running into an opponent that was on the ground and tumbling to fool the ref?

I thought Pirlo was a fantastic passer with great vision, if he could run, tackle and had some strength he would be a good player..............

Best thing about Zambrotta is he has only been a defender for a few years! He adjusted after Camronesi took his spot in midfield at Juve, that is true class.

The defender did go down easily. However, Neil shouldn't have given him the opportunity to do so, by going to ground in the area. It was the last minute of extra time, in a World cup knockout match. Most players are going down easily in the area, if given the chance.

Pleased to see someone mention Riquelme. In a time where Midfield Generals seem to be almost extinct, to see someone like Riquelme pulling the strings so effectively is great to watch. If Argentina hadn't been hamstrung by a cowardly manager he could have been holding a winners medal.
