I can't see that they are responsible for lost property and the employee appears to have acted in good faith.
Legally I don't see any case here.
However, if you feel that strongly about it I would write a letter of complaint to them. No idea what their stance would be, but many companies would want to reach some sort of agreement rather than have reputational damage. Might get a Happy meal out of it. Cheesy

I agree, get a good lawyer and get the girl in at the same time, you sue for negligence and then once you win with supporting testimony, she sues for stress and you take a cut :-]

Its win win!

And tell em there was 4k in the wallet

Mikky
Dont know if you know this but if you lose your wallet in town,it is covered on most peoples house insurence.

I only know this as my husband once lost his wallet in town, they not only paid out for the money lost, they also paid out for a new wallet too.

even if you did "sue" , you can only lodge a claim for material losses and a portion for stress, inconvenience, etc etc.

you might get a few hundered quid, and the girl would probably lose her job. hardly seems worth it.

Complain to McD's, see what happens. Don't even think of going to court.

I find it funny what Billy was saying about how it all goes to the cashier. If he was actually your m8 there and the person said know i have to stick it in this safe then you would be complaining about bureaucracy, you lost your wallet, simple as.

Sue her? she works at mcdonalds! you might get a fiver!

No, sue macdonalds for employing stupid dolts. Ive seen people getting pay outs for far far far less. And Im not suing for material loss.... Im suing for the stress and trauma caused by a thief gaining access to my personal information such as address and now I live in fear of having a break-in, or worse, my identity being cloned.

And mad, this was in Birkenhead, Merseyside, England... not scotland. I would have expected such behaviour in scotland

Nobody wants to go to court. An out of court settlement for employing thickos will do me!

LOL, It's hardly fair to call this girl a 'stupid dolt', ok, she was foolish and naive, but it was YOU that left you wallet there in the first place! (pot calling the kettle black?)

Did you leave your keys there also? as I see no reason to be worried that this guy now knows your address....

I hope you are joking about a settlement, either in or out of court. IMO too many people are looking for a quick buck in this way now, and the people that truly deserve compensation get overlooked/undercompensated for genuine claims due to 'issues' like this one.

Realistically it's not worth the hassle! Firstly (I'm certain you have already) ensure all cards etc. are cancelled, then send a fuming letter to McDs blagging the threat of legal action and fully explaining the situation. More than likely their "corporate policy" will be to please you and they will offer free food/minimum compensation. IMHO its not worth getting serious and hiring lawyers over this. Live and learn! I would, however, be interetsed to hear the opinions of those who are actually in the know!

it's very easy to say with hindsight that this girl acted stupidly, but in that moment, I don't think her actions were that different from what many people would have done.  I hope she doesn't lose her job.

I don't see why you think you have a case. YOU left your wallet unattended it's YOUR fault. She did nothing wrong and acted in good faith. She was conned pure and simple. All MCD have to do is prove they have a policy about lost property and prove she was trained properly and they're in the clear. And she has no money to sue for.
I don't understand the blame culture at all. Accept that it was down to you making a mistake.

and leave the poor girl alone!
