Losing a wallet or keys is a real nightmare.
Last year when coming back from Kenya, After we had checked all of our luggage in, someone broke into one of our suitcases and nicked all of the booze and a portable DVD player.
We tried to claim on the travel insurance but their stance was that it was no longer in our care and therefore we couldn't claim.
We tried the airline but they didn't want to know.
Household insurance said to try and claim on the travel insurance.
No one would take our case (just the contents) so I don't know that you stand much of a chance.

it's very easy to say with hindsight that this girl acted stupidly, but in that moment, I don't think her actions were that different from what many people would have done. I hope she doesn't lose her job.
yes...because you lose a glorious career when you are sacked by MacD's....hell the only job you can get is gas station attendant....or handing out leaflets in city centre.
I'm sure she'll be devestated she can't flip burgers for the rest of her life but I reckon she'll life with it.
but to think you can actually sue her over this...*tssskkk*...whatever happened to people taking responsibility for their own stupidity?
And what's a grown man doing in macdonalds anyways?...you should know better...it's the most revolting "food" you can possibly get and only 14YO's should be allowed to eat there.
everything about macdonalds is evil (Ronald is just satan with his face painted)

Well isn't it nice to be in a position to make comments like this?!
I don't know what the job market is like nowadays as I have been in the same job for a number of years. However, when I left school it took me an age to find employment - couldn't even get an interview to stack shelves at a supermarket! I ended up taking a job which paid even lower than McD's but it got me a rung on the ladder.
I don't think it is right to suggest that getting sacked from any job could not be considered a bad thing - she will have to explain to her next potential employers why she got the heave ho and I don't imagine it will do her any favours. If I was in that position and got the sack, I would be devastated.

Well thats an opinion ... of sorts ... not sure what to make of it or if its a wind up but .... hmmmmmm.
well i suppose i'm speachless for once, probably due to having loved the time I spent in the employment of Mcdonalds, It was probably the best part of uni for me.
Just to be pedantic, You never actually flip any of the burgers in Mcdonalds, all meats with the exception of Bacon and chicken are cooked in a clam shell grill.
Mcdonalds has a great employee reward and improvement structure, they even have their own University, so a "sacking " from Mcdonalds can be a huge loss for some, particularly if you enjoy the work environment.

I know this is getting a bit off point but most people who work in McD's (at least the 18-25 yr old category) are probably putting themselves through uni and only work there part time. As far as uni type jobs goes, you get paid decent, you get food (ok its crap but hey, we are talking about students here) and you work decent hours at McD's. Compare that to working in a 'cool-hip trendy' bar where you are cleaning up spew, on your feet all day long and working god awful hours for less than minimum wage and I know which one i would prefer.
Like Billy said, a lot of these jobs that people turn their nose up at, actually end up being great fun for those who work in them part time cause you have great banter with your co workers taking the piss out of all people who look down at you knowing that in five years time your going to be earning more than these snobs. And remember, they are serving food!!! Lesson for today: Be nice.

Nobody wants to go to court. An out of court settlement for employing thickos will do me!

Seems like everyone's getting the 'blame' here apart from the scum who made off with the wallet!
1. Yes it's careless to leave your wallet lying on a counter but the idea that it's your fault if it disappears is IMO backward (any number of distractions could result in you misplacing the said wallet for a moment....Eg. 'the cries of a passing pie merchant'...dare I say it 'norkage'...lol) but the wallet should still be there once you've regained your composure
2. The person behind the counter was naive and stoopid (the least someone in a similar scenario should do is a simple name check....takes two secs (so the food will still be 'fast') and you shouldn't need 'training' to come up with that...GCSE's, A-levels, Degrees are getting easier!).
3. Regardless of the above, the bottom line is we're all too quick to look to aportion blame to someone other than the DIRTY THIEF....why? Possibly because we've lost all faith in the criminal justice system. Lets face it, if the lowlife was caught red handed they'd probably get 1/3 off the price of their burger so long as they coughed to the offense....

Probably because the "Dirty Thief" was the only one in the sorry episode to display a high level of intelligence, skill, wit and cunning!

I was just about to post along the same lines but with a different conclusion.
I'm surprised knowone has highlighted the opportunistic genius of this guy, it takes some bottle to do that.
We need more acts of impromptu creativity displayed by the perpetrator in this country to regain our sense of social individuality lost amongst the decadent ethos of todays culturally benighted generation that have consumed the country's propensity for transcendental charisma with a fatuous acquiescence to disposable t.v and American ideology.
