On Saturday 30th September Bannatyne's Casino, Newcastle hosts the second leg of the 2006 Ireland v TeamGB ICHUC International Test Match. TeamGB lead 8 - 3 from the first leg and the match is sure to be a strongly fought affair. In addition to the International Test Match the ICHUC will be honouring one of the true pioneers of British poker, Roy Houghton.
Before the poker gets underway lunch will be served. The lunch itself is a two course (hopefully three) roast for a modest £5/head. All ICHUC players and officials will be attending along with many others who wish to show their respect for the work that Roy has done over the years in promoting poker in this country. There will then be a presentation made to Roy - and possibly a few words from the man himself, before the serious matter of the poker gets underway.
Thanks to ICHUC sponsors and TeamGB's official sponsor VCPOKER.COM Ireland and TeamGB will be playing for a very beautiful crystal trophy, aptly named 'The Roy Houghton Trophy' which will remain on permanent display in Bannatyne's Casino cardroom.
During the HU battle there will be plenty of poker for everyone with JUICE FREE STTs being spread at £5, £10, £25 and £50.
In the evening there will be a mad £5 unlimited rebuy tournament which will undoubtedly create a chorus of 'Chips' that will be heard on Teeside.
But the pokerfest does not stop there.......... On the afternoon of Sunday 1st October (after another three course lunch at £5/head) there will be a £100 (JUICE FREE AGAIN!!) Double Chance Freezeout tournament - THE NORTH STAR sponsored by VCPOKER.COM. The winner of this tournament will receive a beautifully engraved trophy to keep whilst THE NORTH STAR itself will once again remain on permanent display at Bannatyne's. The running of double chance freezeout is very significant as it was Roy who originally devised that format.
