i would suggest somewhere like birmingham as a venue it is quite central and most of us can get there in under 3 hours (even if it means flying) we have a choice of casinos that we can sort out a private tourny in plenty of quailty hotels and in janurary they will being delighted to host a do and to wrap it all up there is a few lapdancing clubs

the other location would be london but birmingham is a cheap night out than london

Birmingham, or, & not just because I live close by, Nottingham - both are roughly "Central" in the UK, have good road & air links, & are much cheaper than London.

And we would need to keep the cost down - not everyone can afford too much, & it would be intended to be for everyone, not just the "deep pockets".

If blonde is going well, I am sure we would chip in a few bob too.

I would have thought East or West Midlands too, and I'm a fair way away from either

Anything with good transport links, a reasonably priced hotel nearby and a good function room

January will be good value, quietest time of the year for those guys

and I echo earlier sentiments...set a date and location and if you can make it, great. Let's avoid polls etc...too many people to satisfy everyone!!

btw if we had it at the village hotel in walsall i could arrange B&B in the hotel for £27.50 per person, i know a quiet room where we can set up some poker and they have big reception room where we could eat drink and dance and i could sort us out a good deal on that (as long as i dont mention the casino seemingly 2 months ago they got a crowd in the hotel from the casino that used a non smoking conference room as a drinking den it reeked in the morning and they are still hunting the culprits down)

Do they have any idea who the villains were? (tut some people)

Tikay: Bloody great idea, yes you may live to regret it though the rest of us won't. I hate do's as well, remember I turned up late at the Gala and left early, but this will be an extension of a casino buffet with knobs on, not just "a do". Suggest you get "soundings" with ironside and polls only if you really really have to. Midlands looks fav I suppose.

Ladies and gentlemen ... Mr. Kenny Rogers

The Gambler

On a warm summer?s evenin? on a train bound for nowhere,
I met up with the gambler; we were both too tired to sleep.
So we took turns a starin? out the window at the darkness
?til boredom overtook us, and he began to speak.

He said, son, I?ve made a life out of readin? people?s faces,
And knowin? what their cards were by the way they held their eyes.
So if you don?t mind my sayin?, I can see you?re out of aces.
For a taste of your whiskey I?ll give you some advice.

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, if you?re gonna play the game, boy, ya gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.

Now ev?ry gambler knows that the secret to survivin?
Is knowin? what to throw away and knowing what to keep.
?cause ev?ry hand?s a winner and ev?ry hand?s a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep.

So when he?d finished speakin?, he turned back towards the window,
Crushed out his cigarette and faded off to sleep.
And somewhere in the darkness the gambler, he broke even.
But in his final words I found an ace that I could keep.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.

You got to know when to hold ?em, know when to fold ?em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count you r money when you?re sittin? at the table.
There?ll be time enough for countin? when the dealin?s done.
