Intresting, i didn't consider a FD at the time, he has raised in EP i was thinking more Ax, of course is a possible holding. Although i think with this he might try to take it on the flop. If he has the FD and makes it on the turn does he flat call my lead? I could see it if we were deeper but by the turn i have commited nearly 2/3rds of my chips. We can't rule it out though i have made that play myself many times.

Well, it depends how much FE you think you have on the turn with KK, against a BB that has c/r the flop and lead the turn, in these tournies they aren't folding to your turn jam very often (given how little chips James has left) . The flop c/r was small, if you have KK there you prolly call to see the turn, BB can have an A/flush draw or some other mess, on the turn he is still leading so I dont much like pushing it in on the turn with KK... I'd just pitch it there, but these people dont pitch KK in this spot, and they dont push for the reasons above, so calling is what they do. IF they had a naked here with something like QKos I imagine they would call quite often as well

Flushy, was this one of the bigger buyin tournies or one of the small ones? My default in this is to check (and fold if they bet)  I dont see a huge deal of value in pushing unless you put them on AA/AQ/JJ and think they fold, which is prolly a bit inventive given the action.

yeah, me either. They sometimes have a $300 15k g'teed (i think)  which is the reason i asked

I don't see any other course of action then to check and fold most of the time , they dont call your bet with anythin u beat, they rarely fold anything you beat, and they dont often bet the river unless they have you beat IMO, so it seems like checking can get a showdown against a lot of hands you beat, and makes a river fold quite simple.

If someone can come up with persuasive reasoning why check/fold isn't best (as a default play in these spots), it would be enlightening for sure.

I cant see how you get to the river in his spot with a hand that bets the river on a bluff with these stack sizes. I can see how he might have got there with the nuts/high diamond,  but a hand that bets the river on a bluff? I cant really think of one

lol too true, but even then, I cant really think of many hands that THEY can get to the river with! This is how I can see them having the flush.


I can see them having a filthy gutshot with paint/paint on the flop, turns a flushdraw, and makes it on the end, I can see them having KK (or even other pp's!!) with a d, I can see them having a flush on the turn, they can have AxKd on the flop/turn, all these hands are how this field would play those hands (maybe not so much AK, but your r/r on turn is scary, so its a defo possibility)

If they had paint/paint gutshot on flop without a d, I think they typically fold the turn (although sometimes they might not, the liklihood of this hand is prolly too small to justify the river call anyways) and apart from that, im about stuck. They CAN have A/x without diamonds, but I doubt they are pushing the river, they are normally happy to check behind, so tryin to handle this mess seems like if they are betting on the river, its almost always with a better hand (enough for me to justify folding at least)

Good post. I love getting most of my stack in on the streets then getting it in on the river when i know they are too stuck in the pot to pass. The problem is i sometimes come into these situations, they make the game much harder than it needs to be!

I pushed, captain moron over here. I fancied he isnt passing any Ax hand given how commited we both are to this pot, well i say i thought i pretty much pushed straight away. JungleCat said i should check here as he may check a weak diamond behind and if he bets i can pick of the bluff. That would be normal play in similar situations, i don't really like passing here but then i never like passing

I will bow down to you as master of all though if you can name his cards. And yes it does involve £0.50!
