I've been robbed a couple of times for small items so couldn't be bothered to chase them that hard.

A friend of mine got the run around off some woman in brighton, she kept saying she had sent the goods over and over. Eventually he snapped and drove about 2 1/2hrs to her address, when he got there she protested for a minute until she saw he wasn't going anywhere without money or goods. She popped back into the house and emerged with the goods after a couple of minutes.

How much were the goods worth?

It was for a fancy pair of jeans, think they were about £80.

Doesn't matter, the chance of intimidating little old ladies is worth every penny of petrol. Wink

The last thing I bought from e-bay was a Georgian Gaming Counter - that was from an antiques shop in Cambridge, and I definitely couldn't be arsed to go that far, the travel would cost more than the product.

I can't believe people still use e-bay. Seems to me like the most stressful way of buying stuff in the world. I got ripped off big style on my first every purchase and gave up there and then.

IMHO ebay is great, I've bought some bargains there and also managed to easily sell stuff that I didn't want any more for a fair price.  You can also buy slightly obscure things that would be hard to find in local classifieds.  My best poker-related buy was five decks of Kems with the Binions horseshoe logo on them, as used at the 2004 WSOP, unused and sealed, for $100 (about £60 at the time, I think).  These cards are amazing, we still use them now and they are still in great condition.  After I realised how long one deck would last, having five seemed like overkill so I resold two decks on eBay for over £30 each.  So I'm freerolling on the current deck, and I still have one unopened deck.  The majority of people are honest.

Hmmm. I didn't like ebay's attitude to be honest. They seem to be more interested in lettting this person get away with it because they make money. That sort of thing won't generate an atmosphere of honesty imo.

You're right, you can find bargins on ebay but if you take those savings and subtract the number times you get ripped off/something breaks and has no warranty, do you really save. I think that's why i won't use it anymore.

I bought V tickets on there recently and after choosing the wrong option twice the payments wouldn't get there in time for the guy to have received the payment before sending the tickets.

He sent them on trust and refunded the 2nd payment as soon as he got it which means i still have faith in the decency of most people.

I totally disagree with you.

The amount of things I have purchased on eBay and something has gone wrong with them I can count on one hand. I have over 1000 transactions on eBay.

You just got unlucky by not reading the small print although I would be pissed off too. I only found out that it was against eBay policies to send money via a B/T after watching a report on Sky News.

I agree Nemesis, I use Ebay to buy & sell all the time, I've had hardly any trouble, 99.9% are honest, always check feedback, its the biggest clue to peoples honesty.

i have ordered two tickets for a George Michael concert via ebay and paid by cheque. I know I should no better but knew I was having a gamble and won't go broke if I don't get them. Keeping fingers crossed that I get the tickets ok.
