Disgraceful.
Give up surfing or give up work. Or, as I was told by my boss about ten years ago, "Stop taking the piss or leave"

Uninstall Firefox. IE takes so long to load you'll have plenty of time to get work done in between.

When I last worked in an office which was 18 months ago I spent perhaps 30 hours out of 37 on various poker sites and forums. My only regret is that I wasted the other 7 hours each week pretending to do some work!

This used to be a problem for me. I spent all day on Blonde, My Space etc. and ujust used to delete the history.
I thought this was enough until i looked on the server when it was left on, and saw all the sites listed. Luckily my boss wasnt too good with computers.

ive recently had to lead a formal investigation for innapropriate use of the internet. when i visited the IT department, the manager let me view all the sites this worker had been in. i could see them all except the ones where he had to do a personal log in i.e if you sign into a yahoo or hotmail, IT cant see inside that site anymore. you could therefore theoretically sign into yahoo and go to blonde through your email screen search the internet. if you sign into blonde, they will know youve been to blonde but should not be able to see what pages in the forum you have visted. not that im supporting slacking off from work!!

Not true mad.... every URL you have accessed will be logged. They will be able to see any non-secure page you have accessed - including blonde. Yahoo and Hotmail and online banks cannot be seen because either these are encrypted pages (https://) or they require a session id with a login and password. Forums do not usually work like that and where a page can be viewed as a guest then the URL that is logged on a page access will still work.

ah, so even if you logged in via yahoo, you can still see the pages of the forum. i didnt know this. so why isnt the forum encripted if you need to sign in?

This forum is public, its not private information.
The IT department will not be able to see the contents of your PMs. Those are private and as such they are protected by your password and you need to log in to read them.
But you don't need to login to read this forum. And therefore the URL logged will access this forum without the need for a login.

It's easy to get away it. Just make an SSH tunnel your home computer and then they will never know.
