If you turn up at The Vic "improperly dressed" by their rules you will not be allowed in, as simple as that. Many can testify to that.

It's their train set, & they can do as they wish. Punters have the same choice & rights, they can accept it, or they can go elsewhere.

What is acceptable "dress"?. It's a balance thing, a common sense thing. Suit & tie? Singlet? ( I've seen both in some places) it's just common sense, & I do think a line has to be drawn somewhere. Personally, I find it offensive to sit next to someone wearing a vest or singlet at a Poker Table, but I'm old, see?

Vests i agree with but whats wrong with a plain v neck tshirt its comfy and hardly offensive.

Well we are having a good debate what do people also think about being in your seat dead on time or you are disqualified.

It is their interpretation - shared by many - of the Gaming Commission Guidelines. The Vic don't make the Rules. I'm not defending them, but them's the facts.

Plain V Neck? I agree - but nobody could ever define what is "smart casual", so it's objective. To be honest, I find it hard to get worked up about such trivialties, but we are all different, & I understand why it upsets some folks.

it doesnt upset me really as i wont or cant afford more like to play the event but just thought it was worth some discussion.

Everyone knows what time the tourney is supposed to start and I blame this as one of the reasons for just about every single poker tournament being late in starting!!  There really is no excuse for not being at the venue and in your seat in time.

I don't really see the point of disqualification. Sometimes things happen that make you late, no-one can predict a motorway accident!

Just please no alternates!

Well, I think if you are not there on time, you are entitled to be removed from the Comp, & refunded your Buy-In & Reg Fee.

Many Casinos hold up the start of play because one player has not taken their seat, we hear announcement after announcement, "Mr Smith, Mr Smith, we are waiting to start, please take your seat".

Meanwhile, the other 149 of us, all of whom took the time & trouble to arrive in time, sit & wait patiently for Mr Selfish-Daft-Bugger. Can't be doing with THAT.

I can't see what the big deal is, if you paid £3.5k and got stuck on the tube it seems silly to get bounced from the comp for being 3 hands late... why dont they just start them off on time and blind the people off? my view is that its their entry, their chips, they should be able to do as they wish. Just my own personal opinion.

Tough to disagree, but it's a Gaming Commision thing. I think they actually say "must be on the premises" but that's hard to enforce, (or easy to get round...) so the Casinos take it a step further to be safe. Regulated, Licensed Casinos have to kow-tow to "Compliance", & with good reason.

It is in the gaming board guidlines, which is as good as law, that 'All players must be on the premises at the start of the competition'. Many casinos require players are seated for the first hand to ensure that they are complying with this regulation.

thanks a lot... if thats the case then I agree it makes perfect sense to have them in their seats, imagine the problems with people using the old "I was in the stairwell for 20 minutes" trick!

I agree, lets keep poker in the dark ages.
What harm does it do whether he/she is present or not?
If they have paid their entry fee simply blind them off when its their time to post.

As for not allowing alternates,  Then we will never enjoy the big prize pools the Americans are used to with small buy in fees.
The casinos at the moment are simply not big enough to cope with the growth of poker , so alternates are the best possible solution instead of 3 or 4 day 1 starts.

That is what I m trying to say, the rules DO need changing.
If someone has a five hour plane delay, then all they need to do is phone the casino and asked to be withdrawn before the tourny begins . Then if we allowed alternates, they could go on alternate list and play if they made the cutoff time

I cannot believe for 1 minute you would be put off by the size of the field James. Dont suppose we will ever see you playing the WSOP main event then
