Intially raiser passes QQ, now should I even be calling here preflop? By the large preflop raise, I put him on QQ-JJ, perhaps AK. I had a good debate with him afterwards and he asks why I'm even calling preflop if I think he has a bigger pair. I'm adding mobucks to my buddy list though. Smiley

Its entirely read-dependent whether you would pass TT here.  Given that you've put him on a range that beats you then passing in this situation is certainly something I would consider, especially if you fear a reraise behind you.

If the stacks were very deep then, even if you could put someone on exactly AA, then calling with TT would be a legitimate play due to implied odds (there's some reference to this in one of the Harrington books, which debates this point).  However, in this situation you're calling off too big a percentage of your stack in a situation where UTG has put in almost 25% of his stack so the odds aren't there.

Given your read I think folding is the best option.  Calling brings about too many difficult flop decisions, although in this case the disastrous flop makes it a very easy check-fold for you, given the action.

I'd seen him make standard raises earlier, he's a fairly competent player. What else is he going to raise 4.5xBB with?

if he had any sense he'd mix up his preflop raises surely?! but i guess it depends on the buy-in. anything below 30 dolla and you've got a fair point.

if you put him on JJ QQ or something like that it's a fold.

I would peel off a flop with it though, like you did..just to see if one of the lucky tens came up.
