They probably don't have a list of the horses for the weekend yet, it's a bit early for that, they usually only come up either on the morning or the day before.
The six boxes are for different things. Really there are only two, the blue one (assuming the default colours) is the odds you are backing at. Underneath the odds is the amount that is available at those odds. Once this money is taken, the box to the left will move up and be the blue box.
Same principle for the pink box and the two to its right only this is where you lay, or back against, that event happening. The money available in the lay boxes are what people want to back at. For example, if you want to back Leonna at 6.0, you can enter these odds by clicking the blue box and then changing the odds, then what you want will show up on the lay side with odds of 6 and the amount you want to back it for underneath.
You need to remember it's an exchange and not a bookmakers. People like me and you say that something will or wont win and the odds are determined purely by what is happening in the market.
There's a lot to Betfair and if you are good, you can make an awful lot of money regardless of the outcome of things. You can back at a certain price then lay off for a profit regardless of what happens. I back Leonna at 4.3 and can now lay off at profit. This can happen a lot and is often called 'greening up'
Phew, I've gone on a bit there. I hope Leonna wins for you, I've got a few quid on too. She's by far the best on there IMO and she seems such a lovely person.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
Its taken me long enough to learn poker without getting into all that stuff.
I actually thought about it after I had placed the bet and thought that was rather sneaky, they have lured me into depositing £10 (well £12 actually as this seemed to be the minimum). If the bet loses then I will still have my £12 but its unlikely I will withdraw it so I will probably try my luck with it in the pokerroom.
If on the other hand the bet wins then I will still take the balance into the poker room and donk it off faster in a higher stake game lol
Still its a free bet so i cant grumble.
I will never forget my first ever bet on the horses.
My first serious boyfriend and im 17yrs old, his mum and dad used to study the Saturday papers picking out their horses and Saturday afternoon was a fun packed afternoon in the local snug bar watching the races on telly. So his mum says ...go on have a bet!
She used to do 5 horse accumulators at 10p a go hoping to hit the jackpot and usually getting less than her stake back.
So I say okay and picked 2 horses..El Gitano and Gypsy Woman...just coz I liked the names. I know I paid £1 but dont recall the bet...anyway the first 1 won at 8/1 and she says shame you have backed a donkey for the second race.
Second race comes on and the bloody thing won at 25/1...woooohooooooooooo I got £117.50 back if I recall correctly but as they say on Mastercard...her face was PRICELESS
