they may have been good back in the 1880's when they wore that was their replica jersey - but then there were only 2 teams competing back then!!! Wink

i just don't get the spectator value of ice hockey.

As soon as someone has whacked it i spend 20 secs trying to figure out where the fecking thing has gone. The only way i know someone has scored is a forlorn net minder or a jubilant attacker.

You just can't see the puck, they should get one the size of a football, play on grass, have bigger goals and kick it with their feet.

About 8 years ago Fox Sports, to cope with American fans not being able to follow the puck on the screen, introduced a glow puck which was a specially designed puck with electronic gadgets and gizmos in it which allowed computers to track its progress. When the puck traveled at an average speed ie player carrying it or passing it, the puck would glow blue. If the puck traveled fast ie a shot, it went red.

It was a massive joke in Canada and many beer adverts made fun of it.

I have watched and played hockey since before I can remember. I was on skates before I could walk. And its weird because I have no problem following it, yet it is a problem for many new or not too familiar with the game which is unfortunate.

It is the best sport to watch, play and follow. 'Soccer' has nothing on it.

hey, we're not the worst team in the league - thats good enough for me!!! Cheesy

Thats what happens when you bring in the greatest player of all time as GM Smiley we raise our game so we're 2nd/3rd worst!!

and Ladislav Nagy always gets me a bunch of dream team points because no bugger else picks coyote players:)up

Had a roommate in college, his sister used to date Nagy as he played for the Saint John Flames in the AHL before hitting the big time. He always picks him as well in his fantasy leagues and everyone always says who?

Do they play Ice Hockey in Sweden?

In England, when you fly over built up areas and you look down, you can see loads of footy pitches.  In Sweden, it's like that but for ice hockey.  We flew up to the north once and on landing, out the window was loads of hockey pitches (lit up, it was dark)  Never seen so many.

I like ice hockey.  Used to play a bit in my younger years but was never any good, great fun to play though.

very tricky topic to decide on, especially given that I am a sports NUT!!

for drama... I've seen nothing better than the end of season playoffs to get into the Premier League... there has been some absolute classics, as well as some total drama in the other playoff finals ( I certainly cant forget Man City's comeback 2-0 down with 1 min + injury time to go and go on to win on penalties.. watching replays today STILL brings a lump to my throat)

for entertainment value... nothing like the NHL/NBA/MLB all star games...

overall tho... it HAS to be the Olympics... so many sports.. so many amazing stories.. and soooo many bloody funny events ( one that springs to mind is USA losing at basketball/baseball!!)
