Nice topic Ginner, i like it.
I would have to say either the Ryder Cup or The World Series of poker.
The Ryder Cup is brilliant viewing. And in the wsop, not only the main event, i love tracking the progress of all the top players, and all the blondes.
The world cup is ok, but England are over-rated and full of players from all the top teams like Chelsea and Man Utd, teams which i dislike strongly.

I was a great fan of the olympics in days gone by, Ovett & Coe and then Cram etc etc ... but now all i can do is watch it with suspiscion thinking that anyone who does really well is pumped up on some banned substance or another ... the olympics despite their values and ideals are sadly tainted .
That's true in many of the events, but not so much in others. I was going to point out Paula Rafcliffe, but the Olympics is the one medal she is still in the hunt for. The amount of time and effort some athletes put in to get to where they are (like Paula) is immense.
But when you see them line up for the 100m final, those thoughts do go through my mind. Which is sad really.

The World Cup isn't even the best tournament in football, the Champions League is far superior IMO.
I even prefer the European Championships to the WC which never lives up to the hype, the last decent one was in Mexico 86.
Not at all mate, I think Dave was still in nappies when Mexico 86 was on
I'm with Kev on the Olympics I view it all with suspicion which is a shame really as the vast majority of athletes will be clean.
BTW the Olympics aren't strictly a tournament

I'd have to go with the champions league...either that or the 5k freeroll on bet365

I don't think the Olympics are any more bent than they ever were.
They just appear to be, as more of the perpetrators (steroids, collusion, multi-accounting etc) are caught. When they are, big story, all over the global press for everyone to have a good tut.
I mean, you want proper nine bob note territory, you gotta go and look at the Berlin Olympics in the 30s. The good old days gone by weren't that rosy at all.
Going back even further, I mean they all used to play in the nip didn't they, how bent is that.
It's probably tougher now than it ever was to scam a gold medal.

So so true.
I cant remember the last 100m champion who dominated and wasn't on drugs or suspected of being on them.

Honourable mentions go to the Champions League, the Word Cup, Euro Championships, the Snooker Worlds, the Ryder Cup, Cricket World Cup and anything athletics related.

For me the worlds greatest tournament would have to be.................
Pokerstars tourney ID#777527 on 10th Jan 2004 - $50 p/l
closely followed by:
Pokerstars tourney ID#777550 on 11th Jan 2004 - $50 n/l
Pokerstars tourney ID#805450 on 12th Jan 2004 - $50 p/l omaha
Pokerstars tourney ID#805569 on 17th Jan 2004 - $50 p/l
Pokerstars tourney ID#839984 on 24th Jan 2004 - $30 n/l rebuy
Pokerstars tourney ID#840013 on 25th Jan 2004 - $50 p/l
6 outright mtt wins in 15 days helped turn a $55 deposit into a big enough bankroll to start me on my online poker adventure

Ryder Cup
closely followed by the world cup.
The Ryder cup always lives up to the hype with fantastic matches and heroes created coming down the stretch every other year.

1) World Cup
2) Euro Cup
3) Winter Olympics
4) Summer Olympics
World Cup has to be #1. I just don't see myself getting nearly as excited about the olympics as about the world cup to be honest. Was fantastic this year, saw the Germany-Argentina match outside on a hotel terrace with lots of friends and all my former teachers (was my younger brothers' graduation day), which was a little strange but a great atmosphere. It's a whole month of football, you always get the great side-plot (south-korea in 2002 or ghana this year, anyone?), nobody ever expects anything from the German team, which makes every victory even sweeter, there's enough time to teach your girlfriend all the names of the Swedish team and she _will_ know the offside rule. Hour long auto-corsos (or whatever the word for that is in English) after every game, drinking with police officers in the streets, learning lots of new football songs and loosing your voice the day after the group stage. It's just the best time of your life and happens every two years (Euro is almost as good).
If you're still not convinced:
THE song for the worldcup. Makes more sense if you understand the lyrics, but I suppose the title gives the main concept away. Used to be '54, '74, '90, 2006 ... sadly it had to be changed to '54, '74, '90, 2010 in the end.

Very German music, but lots of nice goals.

In no particular order:
NHL Playoffs (To live in a country that loves ice hockey for just those 2 months)
WSOP
March Madness (NCAA basketball, cannot beat 64 teams in bracket formation and staying up until 2 in the morning to watch Troy State play U of Hawaii two teams that mean nothing but your friend picked them in his bracket)
NCAA Football (I know, I know, not a tourney and there should be, but having Bowl games played around the clock from Chrsitmas to New Years culminating in the BCS championship....ahhh, true Love)
Champions League (Never knew the difference between it and UEFA Cup when I lived in Canada, but I still watched all the games, I think it is a brilliant idea)
World Cup (Watched every game and knew about 4 players. Now I know most of them and I still watch every game)
and of course The Olympics (Winter is better but summer is great too) - When Canada beat the USA in Salt Lake City in the final of the mens and womens ice hockey it was my proudest moment as a Canadian. Ahhh, it was beautiful.
