Worlds Greatest Tournament

After hearing a debate on tv, i wondered what everyones opinion was on what they think is the best tournament in the world in any sport?
...think the vast majority are going to say the World Cup, although the WSOP is like heaven.

Of course not.

I loved the World Cup and I probably shouldn't say it but I'd love it if Sky had coverage of the matches. I think some of the commentary on the BBC and ITV (especially ITV) is appalling. I appreciate they are piggy backing on other peoples pictures but no one does footy like Sky.
The World Cup is the best for me, a whole month of football. I get a bit disappointed when the group games are finished and we're down to one game a day at best but it's a fantastic tournament.
That and the Olympics.

LOL agree about the world cup and the change to 1 game a day, but the worst part for me is the REST DAY ... after all that footy there is a day in the middle with no games ... i get depressed ffs
It would have to be the world cup for me.

Well before it actually starts I would also say the World cup but it invariably lets itself down with crap matches, early knockouts and loads of cheating bastards, a big anticlimax generally.
The Olympics for me has so many subplots and fantastic stories.

The World Cup isn't even the best tournament in football, the Champions League is far superior IMO.
I even prefer the European Championships to the WC which never lives up to the hype, the last decent one was in Mexico 86.

What is ScottishDave doing on Teacake's account?

The Olympics sees me become the most avid fan of weightlifting, gymnastics, cycling, and other sports I would never normally watch. I draw the line at the bloody dressage though, and sailing is not the most TV-friendly sport in the world.

'Lympics for me.
So much wierd and wondeful pisch you've never heard of, but get into every four years. I don't know what Olympic comissioner was bribed to allow Beach Volleyball to get in, but god bless his corruptness coz that s*** is awesome. There's even something for the missus, she can watch the
camel-toed championships
gymnastics, you can't say this about the World Cup.
Aswell as the bizarre, there's the true litmus tests of our species. The 100m sprint where the fastest c*** in the world is crowned. The heavyist class of weightlifting, where the strongest c*** in the world is honored, and lawn bowling where we discover who the saddest c*** in the world is.
If the Americans didn't always win, it would be even more fantastic. A per capita medal table should be introduced in some crazy Sky graphic, just to gove Togo a reason to get more excited. (and to piss of the Welsh that they play as Great Britain)
Seriously though, it's one of the few things where England and Scotland can put aside their differences for a few weeks and compete under the same flag. I knew of no little kid in Aberdeen, who was ABLC. (Anyone but Linford Christie)
Long live the 'lympics.

I was a great fan of the olympics in days gone by, Ovett & Coe and then Cram etc etc ... but now all i can do is watch it with suspiscion thinking that anyone who does really well is pumped up on some banned substance or another ... the olympics despite their values and ideals are sadly tainted .
