Has anyone been to Vegas in January?

My better half states that she has no idea what to get me for Christmas, claiming i've got all the gadgets any man could need!!!
But she then came out with the idea that she'd pay for flights for me to go to Vegas.
But it will have to be in January or early Feb as she is getting a Labradoodle puppy in Feb which i'll be babysitting in the day.

Therefore my questions are  What is Vegas like in January? How many players do the Casino's daily MTT's get?
If I go I was thinking about getting a room when I'm over there as would expect they'd be loads of spaces and better deals when I'm over there.

Will I get bored on my own?

I doubt it!  You're going for a week?  I seriously doubt you'd be bored in that time.  Sounds like you have a top girl there - she doesn't want to pay for me to go over too, to keep you company and make sure you don't get bored...

Other than that, I can be of absolutely no help whatsoever.

I'm going for new year and part of January - and have been there before in January.

It is cold It snowed last time we were there and it was freezing, never a chance to warm up because of the air con they have there so i spent a lot of time in the bath - work that into your poker playing schedule!

We enjoyed great games at bellagio and mirage - quite easy but this time we are taking more time to look at rakes etc to get best value games. I'm sure someone at blonde can remember links to threads about these? I'd like to see them again if anyone remembers them.

Thanks

Book your room now it will save you a lot of hassle

I think they use Farenheit almost exclusively in the States.

I think she's booked it, mentioned it just and she said i'll have to wait and see what Father Christmas brings me.

So if I end up with a leaf blower or cordless drill I might be a little disappointed.

Ok whats the best value rooms for a single person, doesn't have to be anything special but ideally on the strip?

I am not an expert on Vegas by any means, I went for the first time this year and I'm going back in March. However, I'm  reasonably good at searching out a good deal Smiley, so here is my advice -

- If you are flying with Virgin Atlantic, then join the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club before you book the flight. You will then get 5k+ Air Miles for every full price return fare you book... these can be used for discounted flights in the future.

- The cheapest fares with Virgin Atlantic are non-changeble, once booked there are no refunds and no amendments... so get travel insurance straight away.

- It's not always cheaper to try and find a room once you are there. For example... Not Vegas I know but, I recently stayed at a hotel in Brighton, their internet reservation price was £64... the guy checking-in in front of me, without a reservation, paid £109!!

- So that you know you have somewhere to stay... Book a hotel that suits your budget before you go, direct via their website. You will only have to pay one night's deposit by credit card and you can cancel anytime upto 1 or 2 days before arrival with no penalty (check exact terms with hotel), they will refund the deposit and you will only loose a couple of £s in exchange rate fees.

- A few days before you leave check out the hotel websites for prices for the following week, you might be suprised how cheap they are letting the rooms go for. eg. Harrah's 'Hot Deals' - http://www.harrahs.com/hot-deals/

Hope this helps
