do you think its worth doubling the stakes at the start and having twice as many chips in play? or is it a waste of money?

rebuy so if anyone has rebought also and u get involved in a hand you get your full amount off him.

Flushy only does it for a gesture of good will and adds that little extra to the prizepool

Yes.

People play appalingly loose in re-buys.

I want to sit tight, and still have the chips to stack off against a crazy when I have an overpair.

On Tribecca, I think of a $27 rebuy as an $81 freezeout. (where people seem overkeen to throw chips at you the first few levels)

I think of it as a $54 rebuy

Its pretty good for other people to take their whole stack at the beginning:)  This happened at cincicns where i had built up my chips and a man came in late and got all his chips and immediately lost them all to me in 2 hands.
that felt good but you would need to think about that happening to you. there is a chance you could win double if you take double chips but there is also a chance you could lose them againt people who have done the same thing or who have already doubled up with winning hands.

Nobody has explained to the Original Poster WHY he should take his rebuy immediately.

I am not the best versed to explain this coherently, but, essentially Mr Mariners, the value of your chips DECREASES as the tourney progresses, so yes take them early. There are plenty of other jutifications, too, but they are all, really, related to my point.

Look at it like this.

£10 rebuy, Starting Stack 2,000, Blinds 10-20. Thus £10 buys you 100 x Big Blinds.

At the end of the rebuy period the Blinds are now (let us say for ease of maths) 100-200. So your £10 only buys you 10 x Big Blinds now.

I think.....
