I have missed out on playing in the last couple of APAT live events so far, but am hoping to do so in future. What sort of standard am I looking to be up against?

Is it much better than the standard that takes part in the APAT online?
How do the players rate compared to the ones in the casino weekly rebuys? I gotta admit I find it hard to keep my head above water in some of those games cus I'm such a tight player. The blinds just seem to swallow me up and I get called and beat by all sorts of fish!

Just trying to get a vibe for the whole thing thats all...

Maybe they need a feedback section on their website??

The standard in the APAT live events is very low...  I won the first won, so it must be! Cheesy

To be honest there's a complete range of skill levels - some people fairly new to poker, and others who have played for years.  As it's a deep-stack tourney the whole idea is that it's less of a 'bingo-fest' than many of the local rebuy games can be.  This is meant to reduce the luck factor and emphasise the skill.  Doesn't always happen that way, but that's the thinking behind it.

As there have only been two live events so far, and I've only played in one, it's difficult to compare to the online events.  Although these are pretty good as well, due to the structure and starting stacks.  The online events attract people from all over the world, not just the UK, but it's the same sort of people - those who want to play the deep-stack format for a cheap buy-in.

good idea...

on the rebuys point....you can get an inflated prize pool for a minimal outlay from yourself but as you realsie there are a lot of bullets to dodge and you need to be prepared to mix it.

I think complete waste of time overstates it but good freezeouts (affordability and structure) are going to be favoured by most tight players

you could always mix it up for the rebuys, see where it gets you...

So is it generaly accepted that local casino nights are a waste of time and a lottery???

No, they are great, so many of the players are useless and show no intention of changing style to suit the game.

Brilliant, it sounds like my cup of tea!

So is it generaly accepted that local casino nights are a waste of time and a lottery??? I find myself raging coming away from them and have sworn never to play i their rebuys again!

Rebuys require a different mindset and different skills.  There are some who do well in them on a regular basis - so they must have an edge.

They certainly don't suit an inflexible super-tight approach though.  But like Tighty pointed out, if you can do well in a rebuy, the pay off is substantial for a potentially small buy-in.

its not impossible to play tight in a rebuy. Yes it can be very important to mix your game up so you dont become predictable but that should not be a problem in the early stages of a rebuy where the other players at the table are more than likely paying way too much attention on what cards they hold instead of reading yours for the obvious reason of getting their chips in and gambling, hoping to double up. So yes the standard can be considered poor (as in players become more involved in their own hands when the famous saying in NLHE is play the player not the cards). But back to my first statement tight players can find rebuys very profitable. As blinds are still usually kept at around 25 min increments and blinds fairly low and 10 players at the table it shouldnt take you that long (statistically speaking) to find a hand. 1 in every 16 times you should find a pair in your hole cards so again theoretically speaking you should not be having to stake more than 2 BB's before you have a chance to push your chips in. So if you get one caller at best your an 80% fav to a lower pocket pair, more than likely though in this sort of rebuy stricture tournament you are looking at a coin flip situation/ at worst an 8 to 2 dog and perhaps if you still dont feel a 50/50 sounds good enough then perhaps a freezeout tourney is more suited to u.
And so leads on to the APAT. I have to be honest i havent played in the online series but i have made the journeys to brum and newcastle and have to say they were brilliantly organised by tighty, tikay, des and mel. Bust out quite early in brum but was one of the main chip leaders on day 1 in newcastle until i made the decision to go for win instead of just making money and busted out on my coin flip gamble with my AKs against QQ and lost!!!
The standard of play was very high. I would say you could split up the field into 4 groups.
1)The older folk who just grinded away all day
2)The younger, online gen who were very agressive and always on the steal
3)The newbies to live poker who played very very tight and most of which got blinded off
4) The women all who were of an excellent standard. (They scared me the most!). Almost impossible to read!

Cant wait for the next one in my home nation of WALES  dad dont dance which i hope to play in and win.

Hope you turn up kinboshi. You should come to at least one of the APAT live events and it should be in the best one of the whole schedule- The WALES 1 !!!!

its going to have to be in cardiff or swansea i guess. But im sure you cant get much more than 90 ppl at the max in each of their card rooms. I think they might have to copy EPT and have a day 1 and Day 2 where they get each day down to around 30 and have the 60 left back on the sunday for the final! not sure though.
