Multi question time

Who   -    who do you wanna be    whats your poker ambitions

What  -     What type of player are you   mtt/sng/cash   holdem/omaha/mix      pl/nl/fl

Why   -     Why did you get started in poker

When -    When did you start playing poker

How   -     How are you getting on  are you reaching your targets

Thought the new year would be a good time to post this

Who - in common with most people I suspect (even if they won't admit it to themselves!) I'd love to be good enough to make a living and travel further and further afield

What - I play micro limit NLHE cash ($0.05/$0.10) and $10 STTs and MTTs all NLHE. I also play down the local pub STTs for £10, £20 and very occasionally £50 buy-ins.

Why - I always had a feeling that it was a 'sexy' game and anyone who played it was 'mad, bad and dangerous to know'. I watched last year's Poker Million final live on TV and that's what got me started.

When - I was playing on play money sites from July 2005 to learn the basics and finally took the plunge on Nov 27 2005!

How - Rubbish! I think I'm getting better and until Christmas (when I played a lot) was making a small profit which is now a small loss. But my luck will turn again soon I'm sure.

Multi question time

Who   -    who do you wanna be    whats your poker ambitions

I've just thrown myself into playing lots of poker, and I'm happy if it just pays for itself. Smiley

What  -     What type of player are you   mtt/sng/cash   holdem/omaha/mix      pl/nl/fl

Mainly cheap NL Holdem STT & MTTS and a fair bit of Limit Holdem Cash (0.25/0.5), but these pay for the Omaha, Razz and Stud games which I win buckleys at but I enjoy playing anyway.

Why   -     Why did you get started in poker

To forget

When -    When did you start playing poker

The very, very end of January 2006. I learnt Hold'em from The Hendon Mob guide, searched around for another few hours looking for other things to read, played with play money for another few hours before deciding that I was prepared enough to play with real money. Haven't stopped playing since.

How are you getting on  are you reaching your targets

In terms of the poker paying for itself: I started off with a $5 STT win so I was in the black from the start. Dipped into the red shortly after, until I had my first MTT win in March. Some other high cashes and small wins were making it look easy until I went on a 28 session losing streak which put me back in red, but a good end to the year meant I finished comfortably ahead  (albeit with a $/hr of $0.15) - so short answer:- so far so good

However - it is true that your expectations change without you necessarily realising. A couple of weeks ago I was getting annoyed because I kept on finishing a place or two off the final table on a number of MTT's. Then I remembered that I used to get annoyed because I kept on finishing a place or two off the money.

I'm happy as long as I cover my entry fees in winnings, but if I ever get annoyed that I keep on finishing a place or two off of winning - It'll be a happy kind of annoyed Smiley

Who   -    who do you wanna be    whats your poker ambitions

My poker ambitions are to improve my MTT game and learn how to play cash games. Keep building my bankroll.

What  -     What type of player are you   mtt/sng/cash   holdem/omaha/mix      pl/nl/fl

$10 NL Holdem Speed STT
Small MTT for practise

Why   -     Why did you get started in poker

I had started to become addicted to the casino and I always wondered what was going on in the card room, I had watched poker a bit on tv and had gained interest in it so I spoke to one of the croupiers who told me about a texas tutor night so I decided to go along to that and played my first live game the following friday. Then I met Ruth (ruthless1) who got me into online poker.

When -    When did you start playing poker

September 2005

How   -     How are you getting on  are you reaching your targets

I'm doing ok. I am proud of the fact that I have managed to build a $10 bankroll up to $800. I won a bit in a small MTT (roughly $400) lost most of it and was down to $90 so asked RookieITB to help me out and I got back up to $500 and fished my way up to $800 last night in an omaha cash game (even though I don't really have a clue about omaha!)

So I'd say I'm doing ok Smiley

Won my 1st MTT - it's the regular PNL tourney not sure whether it'll be on at midnight. Anyone who wants to - feel free to critique my play!

WHO - Took severence from my job end of August. Told my wife i'll play poker for a month and withdraw the same wage as I was earning at work every month, the first month I fail to do this I have to get another job.
Lasted four months so far, would be chuffed if I can last a year. Made the equivalent of two months wages in the first two days of 2007 so I'm confident I'll do it.
To qualify for a major live tournament is my main dream for the year.

What - Play 90% MTT's up until last month $25 was the max entry fee, however have just started playing $30+ Rebuy's and $100 freezouts. Cash $1/2 NL or $5/10 Limit.

Why - Played it in my lunchbreak at work and was hooked. Got an addictive personality and Just wanted to play all the while. Won Ladbrokes 8k guaranteed tournie in my first month, only knew how to fold or go all in at this stage.  Grin

When - Started in July 2005

How - Pleased with the last four months, constantly want to improve though and keep reducing my mistakes late on in tournaments.

WHO-
I wanna become a player who makes the least mistakes as possible every game. i consider myself to be a perfectionist and winning money is not my main aim. That is just the topping on the cake after you can be sure you played as good as you humanly can. Big believer in Sklansky's fundamental theory of poker!

WHAT-
A combination of live and online low-med MTT's and STT's as well as home games.
Mainly just use my online tourneys to keep my game u for big live tourneys.

WHY-
Just turned up at a mates home game. Would say i was a fish for a month. Then discovered online poker and just created my own style of play. Lost a fair amount of money at the start but clawed my way back over the next 6 months. Then turned to the books to improve my game and now consider myself to be a competent player. Love playing in the casinos. Grosvenor cardiff being my home casino.

WHEN-
Started in may 2005

HOW-
My online game is fluctuating so much so try not to risk too much till i hit a rush then up the ante and stakes. I seem to do well in freerolls more than cash MTTs. Came 12 out of 1500 and won.......nothing! (a few ultimate points!!!)
My live game is going from strength to strength (go deep usually) and play consistantly well in most tourneys and home games. Just wish i had way to get into the bigger tourneys!!
