And that's the end of the match. Bigglesthwaite CC won by 4 runs. Bigglesthwaite CC 299-10 Viper Sharks 295-6 2 wins from 2 games, I have a feeling the next 2 games won't be as kind to me!

Not surprised at all Nakor, I think with a bit of luck we can both get play off spots. I was certainly worried about playing you last week

There are only 2 worthy opponents in my division. One appears to be well managed and has the strongest squad. Today they were beaten at home by a team that I consider to be slightly weaker than my own and that is managed only intermittently (last login 7/5/06). The rest are cannon fodder, tho that may change.
How much stronger than my oppo do I have to be to be confident of victory if I TIE?
How much does a GFI take out of my team?
How well will my team perform in the third match if I GFI in one match then TIE the next then go back to GFI?
I've yet to have good cause to use the TIE/GFI functions but I think they may prove to be important in deciding the order of the top 3 in this division.
I can probably lock up 2nd place and promotion if I target the right matches, but if I'm a bit more aggressive I might be be able to win the division outright.

Are you in div 6 donkey?
If so only difference between 2nd and 1st is about £25k.
GFI will halve your team fitness level, TIE raises it one and a bit and with PAN it will move towards fair.
I'm unsure of how close you can be confident of winning on TIE.

Yes, division 6. I inherited a half decent Div 6 side in a poor position last season and ran out matches in the race for a playoff spot. Since then I've strengthened the team and should be able to build a competitive Div 5 team for next season. Sounds like 2 GFIs in 3 matches may be too much especially as I play the better team first and I suspect they will GFI themselves. They slipped up today against the other team in the mix, and will be keen not to lose again. Losing both matches would serious dent my bid for automatic promotion. It might be better to concede that match and target the match against my other promotion rival.

GFI and a TIE will get you back to about level I think, if you think they may GFI and you will lose in a GFI v GFI match then it's probably best to be conservative, in my mind anyways.
Just wondered about div 6 as in other divisions 2nd gets neither playoff nor promotion.

Hmm, there's a green line under 2nd position and another under 4th. I was assuming 2 promotion spots and 2 playoff spots.
How can you get no automatic promotion for 2nd but teams under get a playoff and you don't?

That's correct for div 6.
In div 5 and above 1st place gets promotion/playoff, 2nd and below nothing...

A comprehensive 123 run victory was just what I needed although I did GFI. i think to ensure survival this season It will have to be a mixture of TIE and GFI.
Just had a look at my league table and I'm sitting in 2nd due to my win today giving me a healthy run rate. Only one side has won both matches and my opponents today are the only side without a win. Looks like it could be a tight league.

You were far less confusing than the Battrick rule page that addresses the subject!
I also got clarification from the sledging boards, not that I don't trust you!
