We are still dealing with this matter, & are currently awaiting the Chat Log from PokerStars. We cannot pre-judge the matter.

Both 'Stars and APAT have now reviewed the chat log from the Online series torunament on Saturday night on Flying Pig's table

For their part, 'Stars have revoked the player's chat privileges for one month. Obviously this is a matter outwith APAT's control.

APAT is banning the offending player from membership for life and refunding the membership fee to her.

I haven't seen whatever chat was chatted, but, am I alone in thinking this is a tad severe?

PS If you ask me nicely, I throw in a funky physical confrontation story as well.

Seems OTT to me!

But unless we get to see the chat transcript which im sure we wont then we cant be sure how bad it was. But it surprised me the abuser was a female!!!! Wow!

Does it matter how bad it was? It's an online chat box......

im pretty sure abuse isnt classed as chat. Its never acceptable!! I'd rather someone does it in person than in online coz at least i could do summat about it. But if it hapens online, you have to have trust in the site or/and in this case the tourney organiser (apat) to step in and deal with it. In my opinion, dealt with perfectly!

Smply mad, NO, its not too severe. This would not be acceptable in a live event so why should it be acceptable for some person to hide behind their computer and do it!?

I hate to say it, but I have heard pretty foul/aggressive language at live events and the staff rarely if ever even get to the 'verbal warning' point, let alone get them chucked out of the tournament.  This is a doubly unfair analogy, as there is no 'turning off the box' when a live event player calls someone a "c***" (which I have seen, and, as a dealer, been called).

It would be great if in all aspects, all players kept civil tongues and never raged at one another.  However, this is unrealistic, always will be, and a chat-ban is a more sensible option than a wholesale out-the-door ban.   You are, however, sending a very clear message with this punishment, and if the point was to instil the fear of elimination in potential troublemakers you've probably managed it.

This doesn't solve the wider issues of 'chat-box abuse' however, just the smaller arena of the APAT.  Turn it off or ignore the offender, I still say.

I have to disagree slightly as what you suggest is basically to keep your head down. Its not up to you and the rest of the table to ignore the abusive ****! It normally only takes a warning in the live game for the player to shut his mouth. And a email to support online to get his chat banned! You have to stand up for yourself. I still like to think though that you get support be it live or online from other players and it is as much their responsibility as it is yours to cut this out. But one thing is for sure. I will not stand back and let this happen in my games to me or other players. No way.

reminds me of being in france last year on holiday , we were in Versailles, and my missus wanted to go into a shop, but we couldnt get parked. so I just sat in the car (blocking the right turn lane about 50 yards from the traffic lights. I was pretending to read a map, and people were just going round me, no big deal. Except one brave guy who sat behind me beeping his horn. I ignored him, and eventually he pulled alongside, put the window down, and started shouting french obscenties at me. I gave him a hand signal, like basically, "go f..k yourself, and calm down". he then opened the car door, so I thought, bollox to this, and I got out too, and loomed towards him , at which point realising he was fighting at a weight and height way out of his division, ran back to his car, and bolted thru a red light, narrowly missing about 4 cars...

i went back to reading my map....

Is this is something to be proud of?

Being able to avoid a fight just by getting out of your car....yes I think it probably is.

Nor does it solve world hunger or my the tracking on my VHS player, but despite this, it's no a bad thing still.

The seemingly out of proportion punishment here and there will deter folk.
Maybe the next guy/gal will think twice about crossing the line in the chat box.

i have to say that this is a side of internet poker. If you don't like it you always have the option of not playing on the internet ir turning the chat box off. I hope all d1cks like this guy get there chat taken away but there will be up and coming keyboard warriors on every site.  My advice is try not to be too sensitive and feel sorry for the players who post this as they obviously haven't had the upbringing we have and feel that their actions are acceptable

What about racist abuse?  You turn a blind eye to that too?

it doesn't bother me what some idiot i don't know calls me in a chat-box, they don't know me so why would i listen to their comments. I have no problem in people getting these idiots banned. Im just saying that there are alternatives to getting really upset by this

How will this be a deterrent? Are APAT going to announce it in a newsletter?

If the foul & aggressive behaviour you refer to at Live Tourneys occurred in an APAT Live Tourney, we would penalise the Member immediately. You are correct to say that others don't do it, but APAT most certainly would.

Someone else said "too severe". That's subjective, but we think it's right. We did refund her Membership Fee in full, so she is no worse off, she just can't do APAT Events any more. We can manage OK without each other.

APAT, with the help of our sponsors, are adding a whole load of money - almost $100,000 in Season One I believe, no Reg Fees so far, players are treated by us with respect, the Tourneys run exactly to advertised times, there are free buffets at every Event, and generally, the players create a terrific atmo. That's the idea, & we will do whatever it takes to ensure our Members have a good time. Which does not include, no matter how many times someone says "just ignore it", being verbally abused.
