Following the Gutshot ruling (subject to Appeal) one has to assume that the GC, charged with creating a safe & controlled gaming environment by the government, has said to the various Police Authorities/Forces across the UK - "OK, now that's clarified the position, you know the Law, we expect you to uphold it - that is, after all, your job".

I am at a loss to imagine what other course of action they could possibly follow. That's not to say I think the Law is either right, or wrong, but if the Law is there, the Police are obliged to enforce it. It's wrong, no matter how much some folks detest the Police (one has to wonder why), to place even an iota of fault or blame at the door of the Police. They don't make the Laws, they just enforce them.

Is society any better off as a result of these prosecutions?

It will be.

I would argue that we can't just pick what laws we like, and only choose to obey them.

...but that's what we all do anyway.

the local constable has been reading up on the recent law changes, and whilst the gaming laws are different in northern ireland, ie bookies cant open on a sunday  it seems he has used an interpretation of the law to stop the club operating the casino under their bingo licence , the club is covered for small ante betting and in their eyes doesnt need a seperate licence .

they are seeing their barrister today who is confident they can reopen the casino / poker , but as we all know it can be a long and winding road . good luck to the lads at margafelt im personaly gutted for them , they were really trying to make an impact in the poker world at a decent level.

good luk fellas

I vote we leave things to the GC to sort out! And in the meantime shut down all the illegal poker clubs

But that just puts things back into casinos hands so less choice, less clubs and more poker going underground

The sensible idea would be either the GC to sort out an actual poker license not make clubs pay for a casino licence to run a poker room and charge a sensible figure, or somebody start off a petition to get the government listening.

Ok it may not work but it will get the suits listening to people who care passionately about what they believe in and might start the wheels of motion

It would make a better case if the people asked the government to look into it rather than just operate illegally.

If people want to change the law then lobby. you can't just decide to ignore the laws you don't like. We're all full of admiration for Rob Yong for what he's doing. people without his means and more importantly his astounding drive go the other route.

me and flushy agreeing is disconcerting  Wink
