My tip has to be South Africa at generally 7/1 i think.

Probably the best bowling attack in the world with 3 genuine world class bowlers - Ntini,Pollock, Nel and then Langeveld,Kallis and the big hitting kemp to finish the overs off.

There batting looks strong at ythe top of the order with Smith in good form.

They bat all the way down to 10 which is vital in 50 over cricket, and smith is one of the best ODI captains in the world.

I think 7/1 is a cracking price, as they will 100% trade lower at some point in the competition.

The Aussies will be up for it after the kick in the teeth in the one day series. If NZ can get past England in the group I will back them as dark horses. SA at 7/1 is a good bet though... but black caps will be out to amend the choke against England in Australia...

My 2 agianst the field are West Indies (home advantage, under-rated one day side & genuine match winners in Gayle & Lara) & Sri Lanka (fantasic batting line up & an experienced bowling attack).  This World Cup is wide open, any team can beat the other on their day (as England showed).  Should be a great tournament, can't wait.

For what it's worth I think the Aussies are still the team to beat. For more value I would go with Sri Lanka.

Speaking to a mate who is into his cricket in a big way today and he insisted i get on South Africa.  Trouble is, the best price i can find now is 9/2!!!

He amazingly got 12/1 before the turn of the year.

I managed to get 9/1 and am happy with that!

I think 9/2 is a general price, but that has only came down as the aussies are playing so poorly.

I wouldn't swap my 9/1 with anyone as I think it is a cracker, but will prob be able to lay off at 3.0 if they reach the semi's

I usually root for England at cricket, now Scotland come along into the mix.
If we win a game, I'm not allowed to like you guys south of the border no more.  Cry

Hope the West Indies put on a good showing. Other than that, I'm ABA (anyone but Australia) this time around.

My bets for the Cricket world cup are as follows

South africa - prices already mentioned on thread and this is my main bet

I  backed bangladesh at 600/1 as I am sure they will qualify for the 2nd stage, at which point I can green up(they are now 300/1 on betfair). Only backing them purely for trading. I have done the same for Zimbabwe and Kenya both at 1000/1. They have an outside chance of qualifying.

Top Runscorer - I have backed
Kevin Pieterson  @ 25/1
Lou Vincent @ 70/1 - think this is a really good bet
Ramnaresh Sarwan @ 75/1
Jacob Oram @ 150/1
Devon Smith @ 400/1

ditto Jacob Oram - he can accumulate tons of runs when on form.

The grounds the Aussies are playing on are tiny so Andrew Symonds or Gilchrist may be worth a stab too.
