A friend of mine, who was looking over my shoulder and has been a semi-professional jazz musician for 5 years, has this to say...

"Please, for the love of God, do NOT listen to any Kenny G, ever.

If you want contemporary jazz, I very highly recommend: Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, Kenny Garrett, to get you started."

www.pandora.com is your friend.  (This is rather cool)...

Pandora is the dogs...

I second that

I haven't listened to anything else since I started using Pandora. Just whack in the name of an artist or track you like and it starts playing other stuff it thinks you will like. Then you can give tracks a thumbs Up or Thumbs down and it will refine it's choices. As you add more artist and track names it learns more.... Absolutely awesome, and it's free

Kenny G is the devils spawn.

I love John Coltrane.

also Winton Marsalis (or any of the Marsalis brothers for that matter), for something slightly more fusion Steps Ahead is awesome

God i remeber pandora now. We always used to use it for the home game coz you could select whatever type of music you wanted and it got it. It was brilliant, will definately be getting back on there!

P.S. Kenny G is just Satan with a Saxaphone!

wow nthis is the first time I heard of pandora and they seem to have everything I like (which is pretty amazing since I listen to a lot of 90's guitar bands that were obscure even at the time (like Cacophony RacerX etc)) anyway to download from this?

Add Chet Baker and Art Blakey to the list. If you want something a little more difficult to listen to, try Thelonius Monk and Jaco Pastorius. Vocal jazz - Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitz, Nina Simone, Eliane Elias ... you can't go wrong Smiley
