I KNOW IT and ifm will have to confirm this one for me, but even though this chipy chap (who I believe is Graham Suckling) is a Liverpudlian, I often see him around these shores so he might well be a Scouser living in Brum. Nice guy though.

"nice guy, Scouser". That's a rare sentence.

He doesn't look too happy, but Welsh lad (often tipped by sofaking) has doubled through Richard Ashby after catching a nice Turn.

All the spondoolies went in on a with Ouday's 4-5 crushing Richard's Pocket Queens, no Full House arriving on the River.

As a result, Ashby is down to approximately 2k.

Before even making one circuit of the packed cardroom, I already had more information from players to pass on than my cold-infused brain can really cope with (see how I subtly encourage sympathy for my mundane illness).

One early catch was Ray Brown (pictured) who's made a decent-sounding handful of recent finals, and would like to say a big hello to Snatiramas.

None other than the World 7 Card Stud Champion a year or two back, I believe?

Where did you hear that, he tends to keep it prett quiet?

No mistaking this guy, Ash 'The Cash' Pervais, described by Langboy as a 'credit to Midlands poker'.

They don't come much more disciplined than Ash, you rarely see him make a mistake and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he ran well this week.

The Liverpudlian? Can you confirm that hotdog?

I think the sheet must have him and his neighbour the wrong way around.

Board =

Ashley Hayles bets 1k and Maria calls.

River =

A shifty looking Hayles then sticks in 2.1k (pot was around 3k) and Maria calls with Q-9.

"I've got nothing," confesses the Bear Hugger as he mucks.

Nice play from Maria 'Chili Pepper' Demetriou, bet she was glad I was watching.

ps. Can anyone tell me anything more about Hayles, I'm seeing him around quite a lot at the moment?

Cheers hotdog. Yep, the sheet says James Morgan in seat 3 and Grahama Sudling in seat 2, so they must have them the wrong way around. Jimmy still has a decent stack.

It looks very like him, placed in the £500 @ Blckpool in November
And got his seat fo the £1000 same time I did.

Early eliminations are few and far between - but action is definitely taking place on Lucy Rokach's table.  That first hand double upping flush draw hit hasn't stayed put in her stack, and she's back down to a smallish 6,900.  There is now someone else with a big early stack there, going to find his name if the trend continues.

Other stacks looking healthy:  Ray Brown  16,000 (glad he introduced himself right at the start)
Maria 'Chili' Demetriou  15,800

On Chili's table we have a certain Mick McCool, whom I didn't notice on first pass because he's totally quiet.  He's got one of those mini-movie players and appears to be engrossed in some kind of sword-fighting thing with Templars in it (I had a brief over-the-shoulder peek).  He's on 11k so must have played a hand, however.
