Every day at about this time (from 4.30pm) my broadband goes ridiculously slow, to the extent that playing poker on it becomes pretty much impossible. Just had a few tables running on Party, smooth as you like until 4.20 or so, then disconnects all over the place. I assume it's due to schoolkids piling on to the internet all at the same time, but don't really know how it works... Is it a common problem, or likely to be related only to my service provider, or the local area? Would other providers have the same problem? Is there just not enough bandwidth, whatever that actually is, in the area..? Or are Orange just crap? Any enlightenment eternally appreciated...

Oh and while you're here... It also tends to get disconnected by phone calls, either incoming or outgoing. And I've got my suspicions that Sky+ also causes problems occasionally - certainly it's helped sometimes when I've turned the Sky box off at the wall.

Cheers.

It's probably your local area - there's a limit on the amount of data that can be sent to your bit of the world. When the kids come home from school and start downloading their happy slapping and gangbanging videos then it will slow down your poker.

I don't know whether it's service provider specific, though.

Honestly, the things kids get up to these days eh. In my day at least we'd go round our friends house on our bikes to knock on the day and say "Hello Mrs Roberts, can Johnny come out happy-slapping and gangbanging tonight?" None of this internet rubbish. The load on the NHS when all our happy-slappers are obese diabetics is going to be frightful in a few years.

Yup sounds like you don't have micro-filters attached to the sockets.
